Posted by AHemlocksLie Man, I would love to come, but I work a shitty job as a delivery driver, so working on Saturday isn't just a given, it's a necessity. Weekends are where a lot of the money's at for a delivery driver. I usually don't have to be there until later. How long do the meets usually last? I imagine I'd have to leave wherever we end up exploring at least an hour before work so I could get home, clean up, and get to work.
|
anywhere from a couple hours to a full 8 or 12 hours even...I've had em last from 2pm to 2am before...depends on how much everyone wants to explore and how much there is to explore...although on a hot day like it will be i imagine just a few hours...also depends on if we end up driving to a location and how far it is too....so in other words, there's no telling

Posted by apt213 How can a packed Six Flags compete with an abandoned mini-golf site?? I can't imagine that the masses of the great unwashed are a fair trade for the UE group, but I haven't met anyone yet, so maybe I'm just being hopeful. Then again, I bet no one at Six Flags will have been knee-deep in a sewer in the last couple of weeks... MAYBE. I jest. You gotta do what you gotta do. I might be out of town as well, so I can't give you too much grief.

I actually would say I like urban exploration more than Six Flags (it's certainly a hell of a lot cheaper), especially on a Saturday, when it will be the most crowded. Things like 3-hour lines and 10-dollar hamburgers can seem a lot more entertaining with good friends, though, which is my ultra cheesy excuse for not going to this week's UER meet-up. It's too bad, though. I'm sure this will be an interesting meet-up, what with this ridiculous influx of new Austin members over the past week. Did you all get word of the site in the same way or something?
I guess I should probably write something down here. |

Too bad we couldn't turn it into a UER meetup AT six flags...infiltrate all the employee areas there and then find stuff in the area to explore after a day of riding the coasters....thatd be awesome! a bit too pricey for everyone I'm sure though.

Hey I am new here and located in the Austin area. I thought Id stop into the thread to say hello! Im not going to be able to make it to the meetup this time around but Im glad to see that there are other like minded people here in Austin!

Damn! MORE new people lol...well welcome! Even if you don't make it to the meetup we encourage you to post your other personal adventures and photos from other places in new threads here in the forums...helps us to get to know new people better plus we like seeing new stuff as well as other peoples takes on places we may have already been.

So, Opal Divines at Sat, Jun 18th, 2011 at 1:30 PM right? I'm going to try to be there again. it sounds like there's actually a few places to check out and if it gets too hot, there's always some nice cool tunnels.

Sure enough, gang- I've gotten the final word from on high that I will be out of town this weekend. This, of course, makes me want to poke myself in the eye, because I was REALLY looking forward to this meetup. Promise I'll catch up with all of you soon.

All your photo albums show up as 'set to private'. (That, and I don't have a MySpace.)
Are we meeting inside Opal's, or on the porch?
|
|
And just like that, my plans changed yet again. See you guys there!

oops..problem fixed. I forgot it always sets my albums to private by default but it's public now And as for a meeting spot at opals I'm down for whatever...porch sounds good as long as it's not toooo hot outside. just someone make a sign or give out their number/contact info, whoever will be there first. I have a couple peoples contact info but they are people that won't be there this meetup lol or their new.

Nope, I'm thinking of another one - but I know exactly where the one you've photographed is. http://maps.google...6,0.00142&t=h&z=20 This is the one I'm thinking about.

oh okay awesome...we should hit em both up and have a urbex mini golf putt off extravaganza lol...of all the playable holes on each I'm sure it'd add up to 18.

All right, looks like I'll be able to make it, but my Wolverine-ish friend can't. Might bring a different friend, though, just depends on how things work out. Lowe's has turned out to be a pretty great job. Y'all can come by and see me sometime, if you'd like.
I'm a ramblin' man... |

Uh guys, one more thing... I just put Opal Divine's into Google Maps... and it looks like there are three of them... we're talking about the one on 6th, right? Kinda close to Hut's and stuff? That's the only one I've actually driven past...

Had a lot of fun this weekend, always great to meet new people. I just wish I could have stayed longer this time around :/
|
|
Had a great time this weekend too! And fortunately, I was able to save my boots and make them non-drain-water-scented again! (I know you've been biting your nails in anticipation of knowing that...) In other news, there was a story in the Chronicle about homes slated for demo & restoration. Looks like it will be happening very quickly, so there might not be time or access to these, but just in case, here's a link to the pdf map with photos: http://www.austinc.../juniper-olive.pdf I'll try to drive by and check access today or tomorrow and let you know.
