| | | So we can't vote the DB out of the site, but perhaps we could vote to lock it so no more additions could be made.

| | | Posted by Jupiter Let me get this straight... Av has complete control of UER. ...people complain. Av offers to give up control of UER, only acting as a check to make sure those who control it aren't being ridiculous. ...the same people complain.

| | | Why can't everyone just enjoy this site for what it is and, when the need arises, support the person who runs it instead of carving him up over every little perceived transgression you can think up. And don't anyone call that ass kissing either. It's called showing some appreciation and respect. That is the way life works. Someone gives you a cookie, and you take it. You don't stand there munching on it and bitching that there aren't enough chocolate chips.

| | | Posted by Avatar-X I think anyone who says the LDB should be removed or that it "ruins UE" or otherwise is "negative", simply has too small of a mind to understand the purpose that the LDB serves. There are currently over 126,695 photos in the LDB representing hundreds of thousands of hours of work. Close to 1,000 people have contributed their photos to the LDB, and close to 2,000 people have added information to the database. This represents a significant portion of the membership of this site. -av

and it's different from just a gallery only in that it gives out sometimes sensitive information, and is a non regretable sort of forum. if you put something up and then later want it down, well...sometimes that happens and sometimes it doesnt. it's a thorn. why wouldnt just a gallery be just as effective and representative of the places everyone goes and the things we all see?

| | | The LDB is a massive body of work by hundreds of people and I stand by AV when he says that it can't just be taken down. The photos people have taken and the information posted make us better explorers and without the LDB the site really wouldn't be much.

| | | I see the new setup as this: UER, the urban exploration resource for the urban exploration community, is now truly in the hands of the community. This is why it is important to not vote for mr. popular, but for who you believe has the best interests of the community at heart. This person or persons will be trustees.
It's Av's building, but he's left it. So long as we take care of it, and not break things, he has no reason to step in.
(this kinda sounded better in my head... oh well, you get the idea)

| | | I think that the nation (community) should be allowed to elect a new state (leader or council) on a rotating basis. Once every two years or so? Not sure that it's required, but it might keep leaders on their toes and get us a system where the voice of the majority of community members actually gets to steer the ship. One question though. Who would be allowed to vote in this? Would there be access level restrictions? How can someone vote for a leader if they're not allowed to read the forum where this potential leader does most of their posting?

He just doesn't want to have to make all the decisions, stop whining. Don't like UER or av? Leave, it's plain and simple. You don't come into someone's house and bitch about everything that person does with their house.

Av is giving us as much as he can. We must be grateful.

| | | The database = a way for hooligans to find more places to swill beer and scrawl their names in spraypaint without doing any sort of actual research. Leviathan's Sex Thread = a harmless, fun, useful discussion of things taking place in abandoned buildings. Which one does more harm to exploring? Why was one locked, while in the other a location creator cannot delete the location, even if nobody else has contributed to it? Hmmmmmmm.....

| | | We should take Rousseau's Social Contract theory as a base. We give someone/a group of people the keys, but we (the majority) keep the right to take the keys back if they screw up.
