I have found that the best Stealth is in plain sight.

Definitely. I mean if you're in BFE, the parking scenario may be a little more difficult, but in the city or in suburbs plain sight. I wouldn't pull up directly to the location, and park right next to an abandoned mill, but I will park a block away on the street.

EDIT: Clarity.

When you have a busy schedule it feels like you are taking time away from your explore if you park too far away. Still, it's good to be cautious.

I don't think about it much.

I usually just try to blend in.If there's other cars around I just park like they are.The last abandoned house I went to I parked right in the driveway.

I usually drive my pickup unless I need my navi and it blends in pretty good with most surroundings.

I was exploring the cave last night. That's why I was late.

I have a bike rack on my car, and will park in areas that are populated, when possible, and have riden my bike in. I will just tuck the bike out of view. but...then again, Im pretty new to this, and have not got caught yet. Only once have I parked in front of the old house I found, as it was in the middle of noplace, and I did not even see a car pass the whole time I was there. No wonder the joint was empty.

I generally try to park next to other cars as close as I can get, but depending on how isolated the location is I've parked next to it before. I just kind of feel it out at each location.

Depends on your gear, hiking one mile with full uer gear can be annoying, and if you have to run you may have a difficult time. All depends on the location and risks your willing to take.

I haven't tried it, but if you aren't too concerned about scratching your paint up you could park sort of out of view in the bushes or something and for good measure cover your car in some military camouflage netting.

Unless someone were to walk right up to it your vehicle would never be noticed... just don't forget where you parked.

this thread has been really helpful for me, ive been checking out this farm house right next to a road, and i wasnt sure where to park. i just parked on the side of the road next to some warehouse building, it wasnt a great place at all to park, but i just needed to check out the abandonment for a few mins, then i was on my way.

I guess it help that the vehicle i do most of my UE stuff with ('87 F-150) doesn't even have a radio. That & if theives wanted to get in they wouldn't even have to break a window, the sliding back window has no lock. If you parked it against a tree line & left the windows down it would easily look like another abandoned gas guzzler.

but for those who just have to rock out to some inspirational tunes (eye of the tiger, anyone?) I'd make something like this:

Chevy is right, certainly for burglary its best to keep stuff toned down- no fancy radios.

Also, I'd make a word about what you keep in your car too. If a cop thinks your suspicious and then sees bolt cutters, or other such things in your vehicle, at the very least you need to have a damn good reason for why they're there. So, not just where you park, but what you have in your car when you do so is important.

Haha...

All our other cars are GM but you just can't beat an '87-'91 Ford pickup for a truck that will take a beating and keep going. 212,000 miles on the orginal engine & transmission. It has power locks, power windows, heat & nothing else.

When I go to abandoned houses and stuff, I just pretty much pull up as far as I can. I've never actually parked out of the way and walked to a location, I mean, the houses I've been to haven't been in extremely busy areas anyway, and some of them were also fairly overgrown.

A little more ballsy, at the front entrance to a place I saw plenty of slack in the chain, drove under it, and parked where no one would see me. There's no excuse for it if you get caught, but I made myself so obvious, that I assumed no one would think I was up to something bad. On the way out a cop saw me as I was driving under the chain. No idea what he thought, because he never stopped.

You just had the chain drag over your car? Didn't that scratch something awful?

I've had the idea of pouring some antifreeze all over the engine of my car and leaving a note in the windshield if i ever was to park conspicuously. Make it look like i'm not there by choice

I never try to hide my car or park on the site. I try to park in the closest legal area ( even if it is in a bars parking lot or something of the equivalent, but try not to be in a tow zone ) and just kind of disappear into the shadiest way around the building. I think every place is a different situation.Just have to scout it out well.

I agree. If the cops find your car hidden, all they have to do is wait there for you to come back. Or tow it.

Step #1: Park in front of abandoned occasionally active building.

Step #2: Explore the building.
