I want to make a couple "Verizon Wireless" "T-Mobile Wireless" Magnets for my car. Then when parking on sight for a cell tower; drive right up to the tower. Don my hardhat and fall protection gear. "There is a transponder sending a weak signal on transmitter tier one"

For the first time I ran into some guy doing work on a cell tower last night. We had to abort that tower climb. And the other location is located in a state forest...but they have closed the access roads off, we were going to park away from the "no parking signs" and walk in...But at the last minute I noticed a sign saying "no parking, no trespassing, police take notice, by order of mayor. So where the fuck do I park to climb cell towers inside a state forest, which I can legally be inside of? I need to find a hotel nearby or something and then just make it an all day/night adventure. I was planning on driving right up to the mutherflucking tower too.

Between being sick for the week around my birthday (and my vacation) thunderstorms, lack of parking, and tower technicians ... it's been hell trying to find the right time/right place.

I can see that working if you have a pickup truck that resembles what the wireless companies use, but if I remember you have a Subaru, lol.

"US Government Motor Pool" works well, then tell them you're with the US Geologic Survey doing field verification for topographic maps.

Unfortunately, my car is rather, er, conspicuous. It has gotten me caught on more than one occasion. It's difficult to park it somewhere and NOT stick out. It's something I now regret about getting the car, not just for UE reasons. I get pulled over for the damnedest things. I got pulled over three times in one weekend for the same broken headlight.

Silver Legacy Sedan, "it's my company car." It get's grouped with Audis and other luxury cars over subarus. And I'm "contracted out".

I did avoid getting pulled over the other day because of my car and that I was wearing my lucky shirt (which is a collard camp shirt). I was doing 52 in the 45; and a local cop LIDAR'D me and let me go after he saw the individual behind the wheel was well dressed and driving a "silver luxury car". I was in the Hartford Suburbs.

The guy I ran into working on the towers the other night was driving a big black unmarked ford f-350. So I'm pretty sure the vehicle you drive doesn't matter. I was just thinking for parking reasons; if anyone drove by they'd see the silver luxury (company) car with the Verizon logo, and a guy with a hardhat and harness climbing the tower... looks totally legit.

Overall it depends on the situation.

In an urban environment I try to blend in by parking where 'normal' people park. Nighttime can be more difficult because of parking laws and closed businesses. But do yourself a favor, recon your location and see whether other vehicle park nearby. see if you care that theres a car at the closed bar (store, fast food restaurant, etc.). People park cars for perfectly valid reasons everywhere.

In not so urban areas I usually just park in front of the farmhouse(warehouse, etc.) thats I'm going into. Again, people legitimately park in all sorts of places. If you try to hide your car too well (bushes, camo net, etc.) and get spotted its obvious you knew you shouldn't be there. If your obvious about it you can always do the old 'I was driving by and it looked cool, I had to get some pictures' routine.

Things to remember:
CAR
-No visible valuables
-No visible weapons
-No visible B&E tools
-Sometimes poor mans urban camo works great(empty fast food bags and newspapers spread inside your car, ie. no valuables)
-You can always put a For Sale Sign on your car and park it in a real obvious place

PERSON
-Always carry a camera and have pics on it to show someone curious (do not have pics or video that you wouldn't want cops to see)
-Always have an innocent story or a cover story already in mind (newspaper, potential buyer, artist, or honesty), but make sure your story matches your appearance (teenagers don't buy warehouses, etc.).
-Behave like you belong and have something to do and its no big deal that you are walking near/up to, entering, or leaving a location.

Very true, of course all it would take is someone from that particular company to be driving by and say "Hmmm, there was no work scheduled on this tower today..." That's neither here nor there, lol, it's still a good idea for law enforcement who may happen to drive by.

I'm really obsessive about my parking, it needs to be somewhat in proximity but also in plain site. In generally sketchy neighbourhoods I try and park in residential areas or at some kind of bar/store. 24/hr Timmies are a favourite of mine, as are the 24/hr Mcdonalds.

I not only avoid being tied to any specific vehicle, I want to avoid damage or theft as well. Being towed is a big fear of mine as well, my neurotic senses tingle when I park in a place that leaves me with the feeling of a bigger truck taking away mine =(

though, if you do get searched and they find car keys on you, I can imagine that'd be a bit hard to explain if the officer in question has an eye for detail.

I actually looked into becoming a cell tower technician. (BTW so not worth it. you are required to carry $1000/mo liability insurance and every place hiring wants 2 years prior job experience. But $14/hr to start) Tower techs are usually contracted out. They usually provide their own transportation. Work is done on a need-to-be basis and it is a 24/7 job. But you can go months without having work. And then one night at 4am you get the beeper message saying you need to go out to the tower at "x street" because something is wrong with the transponder. Per Federal Government FCC regulation. They have 24 hours within the equipment sensor failing to have it inspected. I'm sure there is extenuating circumstances... but still I highly doubt that anyone would make much of it. Parking on site sure beats the hell out of me walking up to two miles down a busy road by myself dressed in dark clothing with a backpack and tripod case at 3AM. And then sneaking through someone's backyard. Which I have done. 5 times. (parking on site isn't possible for this tower. I keep trying to park in a nearby neighborhood. But I have been literally chased out by people who live there. The minute you switch down to low-beams, people get suspicious.)

It's illegal or unusual to drive a car?
"My car is at a friends house. He dropped me off. He had no knowledge of what I was doing." (it's a bit to specific. not be the best one to use ... but accessory to trespassing: come on?) "My parents have my car today. I took a cab." " I took a bus here." Or truth: "I have a car. And a job. My car is parked nearby, what of it?"

hey im farly new here but from my experience parking close to where you are going is a smart idea at least if you go missing your car is close and they may look there but like said legal spots with other cars number 1 choice, barly legal spots for number 2 then move if you cant find one and just tell someone where about's you are

Mostly I park at convenience stores and walk to where I'm going. Once I parked in front of a place and wasn't bothered. I drove up to another location and was busted by the cops. It all depends on the area and how suspicious you look.

Let's say you want to park somewhere but it kind of looks suspicious, do you think leaving a note « went to get gas » could help a bit so the police won't investigate too far ?

I've parked on site twice since my friends and I started exploring. The first time was my first exploration when I just didn't know better. The second time was last month, when I was just being lazy. Because of my laziness, I got caught by security.

When you park on site, your chances of getting caught increase exponentially. You might as well just stand outside waving your arms at the cars going by.

Sometimes it seems like if you park like you own the place, people won't bother you. It's when you try to hide your car but yet it's still obvious that gets you in trouble, at least that's what I think.

LOL. I drove a mile up a "Road is not maintained, closed during winter, travel at own risk" into a state forest for this location. It's soo much nicer to drive vs walk, lol. I'm especially good at dodging potholes. Found a hole in teh fence, I didn't even have to climb over ... I <3 easy locations ... except for two the Turkey Vultures roosting at the top. (Checked span bird profiles thought they might have been Red Tail Hawks...nope Vultures are good omens right?)

I like to park right on site. I try to be be very blatant & test the waters. Get out, start snap'n pix of the exterior. All the while I'm scoping the scene & look'n for my entrance. It has a about a 75% success rate.

There's my truck

There's my truck

There's my truck

There's the cops

"Huh? Me? What do you mean? Ur kidding? Trespassing? Seriously I would not have parked here if I knew I could get in some kind of trouble. I just wanted to snap a few pix for my grandpa. He used to work/live here." Like I said, about 75% of the time.

I worry more about my car than absolutely anything else when exploring. Where I park depends on the area and which car I've decided to use. Not proximity.
