| | | Under Section 84(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada (prohibited weapons): "(b) nunchaku or similar objects made up of hard, non-flexible sticks linked by a flexible length of chain. This includes objects where the sticks are replaced by, for example, pipes or other rigid pieces, and where the chain is replaced by rope, wire or other flexible material;" You really up the potential for unpleasant police interactions if you carry these while trespassing, I think. EDIT: Fixed code number -- 91(3) is the code that states that possession of a prohibited weapon (i.e. nunchaku) is a criminal offense. Section 84(1) is the one that defines them, and which the above quote comes from. [last edit 4/27/2008 1:54 PM by Fitzcarraldo - edited 1 times]

If you have a 4inch blade or less it's legal. And also carrying a baton like I do is not considered a lethal weapon in the Ontario Court Of Law. So it's legal as well. They compare carrying a baton the same as carrying pepper spray. It's contained in a nice little belt holster, and has never had to come out yet. I am not out to hurt anyone, only defend myself. There are a lot of crack and Meth heads around here at night and I don't want to get stuck in a situation where they can jump me for my geat to pawn it off for drugs. But long story short, you best means of defence is not going alone.

Yeah really. A tripod will fend off most animals. In remote regions I can see the need, but most here don't live in these areas. Weapons are a liability, not an asset most times, and cops will go sicko on you if your carrying a real weapon (gun) and arrested for trespass in the US. Some states mandate 5 year jail terms for any felony where a weapon in involved. That's a long time, and there's no early release...

| | | I carry a pair of cannons.... one affixed to each shoulder. Woe to the first mofo stepping in front of these bad boys, oh yea. But seriously, I carry a can of either dog repellent or bear repellent just about everywhere I go outdoors, UE included. Not illegal to carry, and if you mace a cop you have a great advantage in a foot chase! (i keed i keed) Srsly though, I use my hiking backpack for exploring and I'm too lazy to take the cans of mace out, but they're not illegal to have anyway so it doesn't really matter. I've never had to use them while exploring, but at least a few close-calls while hiking. It's nice to know they're there if I need them.

| | | Here carrying a knife of any kind, no matter how short-bladed, is illegal if you don't have a valid reason for having one with you, and "personal defence" is not one. Same goes for batons, pepper sprays (for which you would also need a licence) and basically everything that can be used to harm other people. If you get caught you're better off not having anything like that with you. But then again if I lived in a place where self-defence is crucial, I would probably think otherwise. Fortunately I don't.

As long as you can get there on a flying unicorn, I don't see any need to be armed. Chris...
We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

I'm quite aware of this, and hopefully, I never need to be in a situation that makes me use said nunchaku and get busted as well. However, the pros outweigh the ons in carrying the nunchaku on my person when undertaking UE at night, and/or in an unknown structure. -Octane

Just wondering, what if you replace the non-flexible sticks by semi-flexible rubber. It would still get the job done anyway and might be legal ?
