Usually, I have my Kershaw on me, which is just a nice pocket knife. Lately, I do find the need to carry and conceal a Sig Sauer P232 when in abandoned buildings. I only saw people in my local hospital abandonment scrapping copper once, and they simply said that we were both trespassing, and went our separate ways. I've been there at least a half dozen times, and no problems.

A friend and his brother, however, ran into scrappers in the same place, and supposedly, they pulled a gun out and threatened them. I tend to believe them, only because I don't think the older one would lie, so while I'd usually just take down whoever myself, I'm no match for a firearm.

So far, I've only ever had a knife or a stick ever against me, and I've yet to pull any weapon on anyone. I hope to never get into one of those situations, but if I do, I'll be ready.

On legality, I absolutely recommend any person to, even if they don't plan on carrying a firearm, get the appropriate licensing in the case that they might need it. Americans, remember it's your constitutional right to bear arms. Most other countries have similar rights.

I do have a Class "A" License to Carry & Conceal any Large Capacity Weapon.

You need to learn your criminal codes a lot better. You range from a mere municipal ticket to serious multiple count felonies and don't seem to understand the difference.
Packing and not understanding this is an invitation to learn the hard way.
Plenty of room in the hurt locker; easy to get in, hard to get out.

You have NO RIGHT to pack while committing a property crime! This is a felony charge in most states that will buy you jail time on the first offense.
Your right to use a firearm in the street is also limited and the burden of proof shifts towards you. Killing is exploring on a biblical scale, and not in a good way if you could have stayed home! This is a hobby, not a living.

Actually, in the state of Massachusetts, I wouldn't be charged with anything extra for something such as trespassing. Since trespassing has nothing to do with weapons, and since a firearm is not considered a tool for trespassers, I cannot have my charges heightened.

If I was committing a burglary/robbery, rape, or any type of assault, my charges would be multiplied for having a deadly weapon.

If I was not licensed to carry such a firearm, then there would be stiff penalties for carrying it including a minimum of one year for each firearm and one year for every bullet.

some of you bring weapons while UEing...
heres some ideas for those who feel they need to bring some type of weapon with them while exploring. these "items" won't get you in trouble with the law...
#1- wear steal toed shoes/boots, you can protect yourself quite well.
#2- your belt! it can used as a whip, it will hurt... especially if you have a big belt buckle on it!
#3- carry a "3 or 4 d-cell Maglite"... enough said.
#4- if someone has a knife , bat or a stick- take off your jacket, sweater or backpack and swing it around over your head. it will defend you long enough til you can take control of the situation.
#5- BUT most of all, your lethal weapon is your "mind"! dont get yourself into a situation, and if you do your best bet is to run and not fight!

They say "you can't judge a book by its cover!" I say "YES you can, if the cover has a girl on it with a cock in her mouth, its PORN!" if she's 18 and the cock is black, its GREAT porn!

I train in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, so obviously all I need to bring is myself. My enemies will most certainly be mesmerized by my solid ground fighting skills long enough for me to armbar, triangle, RNC, kimura, and heel hook them into submission... in that order. I may even sink in a gogoplata or three. Then I'll go to the bar with all of their girlfriends for a celebratory drink. None of this strikes me as less than wholly feasible.

I would be worried that trespassing can be mistaken for burglary (especially if there is a lot of scrapping going on at that particular location). I don't think I've ever actually heard of anyone being charged as such, but packin' a gat would certain complicate matters should that happen.

It could, but there has to be a person to rob for the gun to matter. Also, you have to be charged with the theft. You cannot be charged with attempted theft, so if you don't have scrap in your possession, you're all set.

I don't know what sorts of places you guys are exploring, but the only people I ever encounter inside the places I explore are either other explorers/photographers, workers or security guards. Maybe it's different in other parts of the world though. Maybe where you live Double Dragon-style brawls inside buildings are fairly common.

So feel free to share your experiences where you've actually had to fend off an angry mob of meth freaks with either your maglite, pocket knife or steel toe boots. I mean, with all this talk, I'm guessing it must happen quite often.

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

I call BS too. The Commonwealth requires a "license" for its citizens to even possess a handgun even a target pistol. Thats not the same as a CCW in the free states. You have to have a special need to carry in MA. If your UERing with a Sig in your pants and get caught theyll simply revoke your permit and put you in the slammer. This is almost as good as the 16 cop cars and the monkey thread

OK, while most of what's been covered in this thread is definitely overboard, I've certainly run into some unpleasant characters while exploring, and know many of my friends have too. Regardless, in every case, it was a better idea to just get the fuck out of there than try to fight.

I think most here are more likely to run into someone out to do them harm outside on the street than inside a building where people rarely go. I've seen traces of homeless people in some places I've explored, but have never thought anything of it, maybe because I don't subscribe to the belief that the homeless are violent criminals out to beat me up. Maybe if I get stabbed in the eye at some point, I'll change my tune, but I've never encountered any problems in the past so bringing "protection" with me has never once crossed my mind. Not even when I'm exploring places found in the "worst" areas of Buffalo.

Besides, I'd say you're far more likely to be killed by asbestos, mold, pigeon shit, PCBs, dioxins or structural collapses than by getting shot at by someone inside a building.
