Rope like Willow found is perfectly fine for grappeling hooks. However it is not as great for repelling and climbing. Krazy is right about the ropes testing however its a matter of performance that one must worry about. The outer shell is almost as important as the core it protects. For instance if I get boat dock rope (rated to 1600 pounds) and climbing rope I have two different animals. Both are static line (which means constant weight or gradiant increase in stress is fine) however if I repel on boat line the outer shell will melt even at 50 feet. However both lines cant be used for climbing because they are not designed to stress under shock. I would bet my life on the Boat rope but I would only use it in certian situations. Also remeber that your rope has a life span. So many uses and it becomes obsolite. Thats right it will wear and break. Also you must clean your rope but you cant put it in a wash or use degertents on the rope. THe only good detergent is woolite. Hope this helps some people.

Anyone know what an "EA launched Grapnel hook" is? It's part of a military surplus auction in Anchorage, and based on the purchase price it's either some kind of fancy rocket propelled grappling hook or the taxpayers got ripped off again.
