Over $432 invested? Isn't that just called maintenance?

the thing about Hyundai is that their engines and platforms up until a certain year were based mostly on Mitsubishi designs. (i can't remember what year that ceased and I am too lazy to go looking for it)

It was sorta recent-ish. There were a pair of Tiburon open class rally cars running in the North American Championship in the mid 2000s that were just Evos under their skin, and this was allowed because it was a variant of the original powertrain.

(Just AWD and 350 hp...)

i have an old issue of Sport Compact Car from around 2003. It was their sleeper issue and one of the cars featured as a Hyundai Elantra that had an entire 2nd Gen Eclipse GS-T powertrain swapped into it (4G63?). According to the guys that built the car, it was a very straight-forward install.

I contacted the guy about the first-gen Z yesterday. He replied this morning that it was sold. That looked like it could have been a helluva deal.

People were prejudiced against Japanese cars then in the 1970s, and the generation that took up collecting classic cars didn't like them either. I've never driven a first-gen Z, but they look like great cars that are probably undervalued. That one in particular looked like a steal.

one of the guys in the Champlain Valley Classic Cruisers has an awful hobby horse about late 70's Celica's. He's got four of them and each one looks like it just rolled off the assembly line in Japan. Now, to keep that in perspective, these are cars that were thrown away, unloved and generally abandoned. They're not like Camaro's, Mustangs or the whole plethora of muscle cars and V8 cars that have a solid aftermarket. To collect and restore these cars is genuinely a labor of love.
