| | | Good on you being able to get into areas others can't. Ever since I was a kid I've been interested in old Victoria. It was a wonderful playground back in the 60's, we hadn't traded our soul for the tourist dollar quite as bad as we have now, mind you it was touristy enough back then, but there were still remnants of industry everywhere you look. I remember going behind the present day dump transfer on wharf st and there sitting at an old dilapidated wharf was the last of the great whaling boats that plied up and down our west coast in search of riches. It still had the harpoon gun attached to the bow deck, but no one cared it was just an old derilict wooden ship. Capitol Iron was still in full swing dismantling ships, the basement and outside yard was chocker block full of old ship parts. I could spend days in that place. Hell, there was still train traffic going up and down Wharf St. The lower parts of Johnson and Pandora St was second hand stores, junk dealers, scrap buyers, you name it. As a kid it was the greatest place in the world, not to mention VMD ship yards in James Bay (where I grew up),Ogden Point, etc.

| | | Hey everyone! I came across this forum a couple weeks ago, when I was typing "Victoria underground tunnels", or something to that effect, into Google. I read this entire thread, and I am SO pumped to have found it. A couple friends and I will be starting to explore as soon as the weather dries up a little bit here, but in the mean time I will post up the only photo I have from one of our adventures last summer. It's from the abandoned mine shaft on Mt. Doug - beautiful night - we lit the whole thing with tea candle lights. My only complaint was the garbage, and next time we go back I think we'll bring a rake and some garbage bags to clean it up a bit. I also found the entrance to Bowker's Tomb a couple days ago, and as a rookie explorer I am wondering if there are any safety considerations I should employ before we go jumping in there. Hope to start posting regularly on here within the next couple months! Cheers!

| | | Posted by 2Dog Figured you meant Store St. Also really enjoy hearing about the old days. It's amazing the places we explore when we were young. Head out in the morning and not return till dark - lots of freedom. Grew up in Moose Jaw in the 70's and are favorite playgrounds were old oil refineries and a huge post flood - power station. You are so right, my old man worked as a longshoreman at Ogden Point and it was on more then a few ocassions that he dragged my butt home after finding me and a friend on washed up logs or in a salvaged old boat heading out to sea. Couldn't swim a stroke,no life jackets, but for the grace of God, there go I. Needless to say when the old man brought me home it was upstairs with him right behind me for my weekly beating with the belt. Man was I thick as a kid. You are right about being gone from dawn till dusk exploring always with an ear cocked for the call home for supper. You never dared missed out on supper or out comes the belt again. lol |

| | | Posted by bbyman Ive got one.... handy little things they are... Love it, I've been looking at getting that exact one. Is yours the 2 inch or 3 inch screen, the recording model or not and the big question I have - how far beyond the end of the cable can you see (wondering if I need the extensions). If I'm slow at getting one, you'll have to let me know if your on the island again - perhaps I'll be able to set up the opportunity to check that space again. But hopefully by then I will have been able to remove some boards. |

| | | Posted by 2Dog Have always been curious to this space and wondering if anyone has had an opportunity to research/ explore it (don’t recall reading about it – but with 150 pages who can). I’m sure all Vic explores are familiar with this spot. The rock wall is the same wall that follows Wharf St and contains the famous bricked in areas of the old HB buildings. As the picture shows there is a 2nd rock wall behind the exposed one, sidewalk above - basically confirming that there was a passage traveling along Wharf St. Past the gate to the left it’s all boarded up but does have a regular door installed and to the right it continues on however can’t tell how far from outside the gate.
| That caged in area is the smoking area for the restaurant above there is a staircase to the right which leads to the back of the kitchen, the left just behind the garbage cans is a door which leads to about another 5ft of the space you see in the archway there is a bc hydrometer and an old oil tank behind a cement casting with some sand in it. Now if you think of the length of the building, another 5ft added to the space you see, does not extend to the end of the building, well atop of the of the cement casting there is a small hole that allows you to see the other portion of this space, its just as tall as you see behind the gate but with nothing in it it extends to the end of the building. access to the other side is threw a business in the building,I didn't go in that side as there was nobody working and we didn't want to go in without telling them. i have some pictures of the other side of the door and threw the hole please out of respect don't bother asking the businesses or the restaurant to go threw as they dont have the key for the door. If the gate is open im sure one of the cooks will let you take a peek in that area. SD

| | | Posted by 2Dog Interesting Thanks SD for answering and satisfying my curiosity regarding that space. Definitely won't bother anyone to see it as it sounds like it's been well checked out.
