SR. '65 made its presence known in Sacul, Texas. We went through the Deep East Texas town on the way to a college tour at Stephen F. Austin State U in Nacogdoches, where I'll likely be sending children and money starting next fall.

My daughter, who took the picture (and others that I'm having trouble posting from my Linux box), noted "well, they're definitely Seniors now!"

That's just crazy talk. Next you'll be telling me there's an ocean port in Tulsa.

I am very familiar with that little neck of the woods. Did you know that Sacul is Lucas spelled backward? They named the town (and lot's of other small towns) from the backward spelling of some prominent founding family name.

Ok children, thats all of todays history. Class dismissed.

Cool. "Sacul" sounded like the name of an anime character, and "Reklaw" sounds like what you do when you realize you shouldn't have had your cat's claws removed.

One of my favorite goofy town names is Seven Points, near Cedar Creek Lake. Apparently, it's named for the 7-way road intersection where the convenience stores sprung up after the lake and rerouted highways were built. It sounds like an Old West sort of town name, especially since its neighbor to the east is Gun Barrel City. And next to that is Mabank, which has (or had) a locally owned bank that I'm sure everyone called MabankBank. Or at least thats what I'd have called it...

moon pic is boss

And then, it asks the question: in a cold, uncaring, ruthless world of corporate slavery and assembly-line experiences . . . how is it possible to still live a life with strength, and passion, and with a soul that is still truly alive?

I contemplated driving up to the top and taking the picture from there, but settled on keeping my feet on the ground.
