I'd say waiting a little longer and skipping the D3100 might be something to consider.

That might be a good idea, since Nikon announced the D3200 just last month.

Anyone have experience with the Canon PowerShot SX150?

I'm a complete photography novice; looking for a basic point-and-shot with some manual control. DSLR's are out of my price range right now; looking for the next best thing that won't totally confuse me. Thanks.

I am looking to upgrade from my Nikon D3000. I am looking a for 1080 video and higher performance shooting night time laps. The 3200 seems great but the 7000 is still almost double the price. I'm a little confused.

Edit: I just answered my own question. http://snapsort.co...200-vs-Nikon_D7000

I don't have the sx150, but I do have the sx30is, which is a good point and shoot... on that note, is there such a thing as a good point and shoot? I like the sx30is because its compact, shoots reasonably high quality, and has a good optic zoom. However it cant shoot in RAW, and it doesn't have the versatility of a dslr (obviously). Any other opinions on high end p&s's?

Edit: Since none of that's very helpful attic, I would recommend going with a slightly higher quality p&s, if you can afford it. I've tried both the powershot sx30is and the sx20is, no big difference, though I think the former is easier to use. Its also cheaper.

I'm looking for a point-and-shoot that takes video at anything higher than 30 fps. Any recommendations? My budget is up to $250 or so.

I'd suggest the Nikon Coolpix L120 or the Fujifilm FinePix S2800HD

I've been shooting with the D7000 for a year now and it's been a blast but the call for a ff camera has almost been to much to ignore. Even with the purchase of a tripod (my first Manfrotto 190XPROB w/498RC2) while I'll be able to lower noise I'll be tied down to the tripod, which I don't like. I like the ability to shoot and move which an ff camera can give you.
I know that the rumors of an entry level ff by Nikon may be hitting the streets relatively soon, I think a D800 will be the way to go.

The rumored D600 is essentially going to be full-frame in a D7000 body. Full, completely accurate specs are not yet known.

If you want state-of-the-art image quality, the D800 is definitely the way to go...if you can find one, that is.

Agreed @Byberrian Fanman I was at Adorama today and there was a gentleman next to me inquiring about the D800 and the salesman told him there was about a one month wait for a D800. That's not so bad considering I'm looking at an August/Sept purchase time frame for one. I've even considered looking into a used D3S but with a price point of $3200-3500 an understanding it's a different camera than the D800, for that price I might as well pay for "newer technology". Technology may be a poor choice of word but I hope you understand the point.

Very true Shawn W. It's funny but I never even considered the D700. Oh well, let the research begin.

Rumor has it that the D600 will run for about $1500 when released. If this actually happens, the used price of the D700 will undoubtedly plummet. At this point, I'd only go for a D700 if you A.) found one for under $1000 and/or B.) need the pro-level speed (frame-rate).

The faster focus and good low light ability don't hurt, either. I use a D300, and while I love it and love that it performs better than my first SLR, a D80, it's still not as good as a D700.

So I've got a Canon Rebel XS with the kit lens that sucks. And my dad has a Canon 10D I think with a Tamron 24-135mm lens. He doesn't even know how to use the lens or the camera but sometimes he lets me borrow it. Only problem is when I have it my kit lens wont fit on his camera so he is without a lens. I've seen some lens adapters on amazon for around 30 bucks but I can't figure out which one I'll need. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't wanna accidentally buy the wrong one.

The Canon 10D is based on an older 35mm film body, thus it has a full-size mirror.. this is the very reason why the 10D (as well as the similarly-ancient D30 and D60) will not accept EF-S lenses (EF-S lenses poke a little farther into the camera). If you want a good standard zoom for the 10D, you'll have to go to Sigma, Tamron or Tokina, as their digital/APS-C lenses will not hit the mirror.

I don't want a good lens for the 10D though, it's my dads and he sucks and doesn't even use it. I just want my kit lens to fit on it, is there any adapters I can get to make it work?

Not really. You could try removing the rubber ring around the rear element (that hits the mirror), but I wouldn't recommend it. You're better off upgrading from the kit lens.

Darn, I was hoping that would work. I plan on upgrading my lens one day but unfortunately I can't afford it. Got any recommendations for a good lens when I do?

I don't know why you're even bothering. If your dad doesn't use the camera, him not having a lens shouldn't be an issue. The Rebel XS is lightyears ahead of the 10D in every way possible.

lenses:
17-55/2.8 Canon
17-50/2.8 Tamron
15-85/3.5-5.6 Canon

or go for a wide angle and a couple of primes.
10-22 Canon
11-16/2.8 Tokina
8-16/4.5-5.6 Sigma
24/2.8 Canon
35/2.8 Tokina
35/2 Canon
50/1.8 Canon

Canon's new 40mm/2.8 STM pancake seems promising for $200.

Because my dads an asshole and he sucks, and occasionally might need it. But he could just us his point and shoot since he doesn't even use the camera/lens to half of its potential... But anyways, I'm saving up for a lens. I'll look into some of those, thanks for the recommendations!
