Dictionary.com says:

tun⋅nel
   /ˈtʌnl/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [tuhn-l]
noun, verb, -neled, -nel⋅ing or (especially British) -nelled, -nel⋅ling.
–noun
1. an underground passage

Wiki says:

A tunnel is an underground passage.
A tunnel may be for pedestrians or cyclists, for general road traffic, for motor vehicles only, for rail traffic, or for a canal. Some are aqueducts, constructed purely for carrying water — for consumption, for hydroelectric purposes or as sewers — while others carry other services such as telecommunications cables.

Not to split hairs or anything of course.

'No need to go crazy...just another picture of a tunnel in Victoria will do....'

Fixed.

It was only a matter of time before this thread evolved into a comic book.

I have no idea what Peterman placed in the hand of the person representing KK. No idea t all.

So, obviously, I am nowhere close to being in the vicinity.

However, I have just read through all 117 pages of this thread (which in actual fact, probably puts me in the outer rings of Saturn right now) and would like to thank all those involved for keeping me suitably entertained through an exceedingly dull week at work.

Seriously though, really interesting stuff and some top notch detective work.

In my home town of Bristol, UK, the approach really couldn't have been more dissimilar. Rather than deny that the City is constructed on an extensive network of tunnels, they kind of choose to embrace it (although, grudgingly so when it comes to the Redcliffe tunnels, supposedly used to transport slaves).

They have an annual 'open doors day' where you can even tour some of these tunnels:

Panoramic pics of the coal tunnels under the docks, anyone?!

But here I am now in Germany.... the quest for interesting underground spaces begins afresh...

Not to be a grumpy person, but yesteday i caught a glimpse of a rope hung from a rung beneath the manhole to the tunnel of Excruciation. So after meeting Yoshkow last night i went downtown in the wee hours and went to untie the knot.
I'm definitely not innocent of careless exploration, but really, leaving a rope in a manhole is really not cool.
I'm finally realizing that this business of tunneling is a very not-rushed, well planned thing. We all have lots of sweet time to become ninjas.
A manhole sealed is sad.
Pardon my rant, just wanted to say that.

nice one, yoshkow. But one last thing.....we've got Ninjas, and there is opium being smuggled in from the boats......where are the pirates? Ninjas vs. pirates! .......But I'm still miffed about that stupid rope.

On another note, i did get a very quick peek of a very neat opium tunnel this morning/night. No further comment, not until i explore further. I would never have known about it if it hadn't been for these very big abandoned dockside meat lockers that punk bands jammed in.....it's a long story.
And JP, i think that it would be very cool to have an open meet night.
