The firehall on Sherbrook just north of Portage is gone. I drove by yesterday, it's a hole in the ground.

Went by the Pit o' Death building last night. New developments!

They've cleaned up a lot of the trash by the door that we use, they've sealed shut the doors to the west stairwell (the one that has the exit door in it), and they've cleaned up parts of the inside (well, they moved some junk around at least).

They also cleaned up the room on the east side that was full of garbage, and they opened the door by the stairwell just left of the current entrance. It used to be an iron sheet, now it's open. Picture of the door I'm talking about. I didn't go through it, so I'm not sure what's over there.

There's also more trucks parked in both of the big open rooms. I'm guessing the reason they sealed up the western stairwell is to prevent people who wander in the back from gaining access to where the trucks are parked. I wonder if they had an issue?

Last time I drove by there, they seemed to be moving a lot of the old leftover garbage/ plastic from the lot to the right of the building (my east/west is shit at 5 am, sorry ) as well as from the building itself. I'm thinking a few things:
A) they're going to re-purpose the building?
B ) the building is going to become even more ignored than it is now but it was mandated it be cleaned up and locked up properly? (Normally I'd say that's really doubtful but look how well Winnipeg locks up it's dead buildings now. Even fire escapes are getting a lot harder to get on)
C) the property has or is about to change ownership and they're going to level the place or scrap it and build something new on it
D) somehow they're going to continue using the building to burn garbage (I don't think that's possible anymore)

Whatever the case, I think this is going to be a really short transition period. I don't foresee it being left open to the public for a lot longer (here's hoping I'm wrong!!)

oh here's an added option, maybe somebody fell in the pit of death and actually died and now they have to clean up the mess ... it is Winnipeg we're dealing with...you'd think they'd put up a fence in that situation, but really there already IS a fence up, so...

except that they've already sort of done that - they use it for storage. And based on last time I was there, they're using it for more storage. They had a bunch of aluminum pipes (I think) in one spot, and more trucks parked in the garage. But it seems like they're sealing off the main part of the building - the part that's easy to get into - from the part they actually use.

I'm actually really surprised that the backdoor is still hanging open. I thought for sure it'd be nailed shut since they seem to be sealing up everything else.

I forget if I already said, but there weren't any tracks in the snow going into the back door, so at least it's been 2+ weeks since anybody's used that door.

Also, west = left and east = right if you're standing behind the giant tiger and looking at it.

<edit> And BTW, Yield! I realllly wanted to get that picture for you, but my friend was super sketched out and didn't want to stop for pictures.

When you come, we should do that place together on like a Sunday morning at 8am. Nothing around there would be open, and the lighting would be better. I can't really light the whole pit with a flashlight

Based on what you found iagox, it seems they are beginning to store scrap metal in the building, hence the extra precautions.

By the way, I will be in town from the 23rd to the 29th. I have my eye on a complex of buildings north of the city...

Besides the 25th, I'm free that entire time. I'm planning to take some time off work, but I don't care which days. I also have a car now.

Yield has my number. Keep me posted on plans!

Complex of buildings north of the city you say? Is it the same one I'm thinking of? PM me... and I also have a vehicle but gotta watch my driving. I've got 500kms left until my oil change appointment, on Jan 3rd....

Also, I'm working up North until Sunday (Dec 18th) night. Do any of you want me to talk to Santa while I'm here and tell him what you want??

P.S. Sorry iagox86, I know you're probably thinking "wtf??" right at this moment...

Oh I can do an oil change no problem, but you see, it's a brand new car with warranty and shit like that. I know some people say you don't need to always do some things at the dealership. However, I think if something were to happen, I'd rather go back to the dealership and be like, "wtf man?" as oppose to explain why I tried doing my own oil chance. That opens you up for all kinds of fraud investigations. Plus, I'm paying a price for a brand new car and some of the services associated with it, for a reason. But sure, I agree if I went in for an oil change at just 40,000 kms and they told me something like, "You need a new engine" I would most likely politely ask them what things they have been smoking lately. Now stop tryin' to fight with me and tell me what you want for Christmas so I can tell Santa, mang! He no wait forever....

Sup everyone, I'm new here. Let me introduce myself and do my first post. I've been checking out things around town for a couple years casually, but just learned of UEing a few weeks ago. I never realized it was such a thing and that there was so much to do, so I find this all really cool. Tonight I went out looking for BDM construction (which I couldn't spot haha, help?) and ended up scouting a few other buildings and stuff that looked cool. Next went to check out Henry's incinerator, but didn't go in (sadly, it looked really tempting) because I had to be somewhere in a half hour and wanted to be able to take my time in there. So here's some buildings and stuff that I found that (I'm quite sure) are abandoned, anyone been to these/know of them/etc? A few looked quite cool and I wanna get around to checking these out soon (I didn't recognize any of these from the locations list and nothing in searching which is why I'm asking here):

A chemical plant (sign was broken in half, I could only read 'chemical') with some other buildings attached(waste all around property/everything rusted/broken windows/run down/pretty clearly abandoned)

Siltex Mill (Looked pretty beat up and all from the outside, but didn't really check it out)

The yellow warehouse - front entrance is blocked, and it's apparently currently being demolished

Able wholesale - broken windows, etc

Monarch industries ltd on erin at wall street - broken windows, abandoned looking

Henry avenue forge - broken windows, vacant/unkempt looking

A building which Marvelous Mascots used to occupy but they're gone now, also broken windows, etc

Any one have comments/experiences on any of these places? Also, what's the best way to stay tuned for group explores/meet up with people? just check this forum?

Did my first drain pipe the other night, nothing too special, but I may upload vids/pics soon.
