i remember when those cars were imported into the United States in 1970's. They were sold at Lincoln-Mercury dealers, much like the Opel GT's at Buick dealers. Made you scratch your head and ask, "what?"

This is a heart breaking thread seeing all those lovely old cars/trucks rusting in the muck instead of being restored for future generations to appreciate. Some of that stuff needs to be in a museum. I am sure there are lots of people willing to take those old machines and restore them, or at least salvage the parts, not sure why they are left to rot like that. Thanks for the pics, they are all really nice.

Well, you can't save everything.

There's three pages of heartbreak here bud. I actually almost bought a car another user posted on here about 3 years ago. It was a delorean

I don't have any pictures, because this story is from quite a few years back. But as kids my friends and I would always hang out on this old abandoned property. It was probably a farm at some point because it had such huge open fields, but at the time we were spending time on it, it was mostly grass and prairie. In one of the fields were two broken down vehicles. An Astro Van, likely a late 80's model and a Orange Chevy El Camino. I remember the strange part was all of the weird things that were inside these vehicles. In the back of the van was a bunch of bags filled with junk, a whole box containing tons of keys and a bunch of letters and mailings addressed to what we assumed must have been the vehicles former owner. Most of the mail dated back to December of 1995, which was eerie because we found a tape in the tape-deck with Christmas songs on it......all evidence pointing that whatever happened to this vehicle or its owner, likely happened in December of '95. I also remember some of the letters being addressed to the owner from the Department of Veterans Affairs, which makes the whole situation seem a bit more forlorn to me. I know its probably not proper to rummage through this individuals things, but we were kids......and it also appeared that a hobo had been making the van his home as well, so hey, "When in Rome".

Found this on the side of the road on the way to an explore. Didn't look too bad at first...
Things seem to be going downhill...
Aaaand this might be why it was abandoned.
The weird thing was that there seemed to be no damaged areas nearby that would indicate a roll, nor were there dents on the rest of the vehicle outside the damaged area. Seems like something fell on it, and then was driven to this spot.

Haha, that should buff out fine with no problem It does look driveable, just a smashed hood. My guess is someone stole the car, wrecked it then took off and abandoned it.
|
|
You mean smashed roof? That might hinder the drive-ability somewhat lol.
|
|
Just a smashed hood? The freaking A-Pillar isn't there any more! Not to mention the roof is a foot lower than stock. I wonder if it fell off of a car trailer or something? edit: the vcr is badass.

Looks to be too heavily damaged to have been caused by a deer...
Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing. |
|
Not even a popped airbag. Dang, that means no dead bodies. I love finding old cars, trucks, farm equipment etc. It's all part of the history I think.

Interesting, I thought it might be a home / custom made streamliner body that were popular in the 1920s - 30s.
