I sat in the new BRZ at the Auto Show the other month. Then Toyota Blues Brothers'ed the local bando mall. Now I'm looking at GR86's.

I love how Toyota is basically making fun of themselves with these ads.

And I love the GR86.

Least we're getting its bigger brother. Not a fan of the styling, but I'm admittedly interested.

Last week, I called around a couple of Toyota dealers in my area looking for a Corolla hatchback with a manual shift. Yeah, that was about as much fun as hemmorhoid surgery with a weedeater.
No one wants to get you the car you want... and I sure as fuck do not want a CVT. I called my tame Chevrolet salesman about maybe trading for a smaller Chevy Spark with a 5speed transmission... again, resistance.

SO, fuck it, i am staying with my Sonic until it or i die.

Had some engine work done on the Fiero by a friend in Michigan last week. Took Amtrak out Sunday to scoop it, hit a dead mall in Indiana on the way home. Walked out to my car, another Fiero rolls up. Clean 84 SE with around 60k, guy says he plans to drive it to Mexico in the fall or winter.

i lost the water pump in my Sonic back in the middle of May... 66,800 miles and it said, buh bye. Last water pump I lost was way back in '03 or '04 on my 98 Cavalier. That pump was maybe $30 or so, was changed in less than 20 minutes. This one was about $180 (and those are friend prices) from the dealer and an hour or so to change out... total bill was $417. Again, before you gasp, those were friend prices at a dealership.

so. Shit.

Very cool! I haven't driven a 4 cylinder one in close to 20 years, I think it'd be a fun little commuter with gas prices today.

I joked about it for a while, but after paying about $95 to fill my Charger last week I'd consider daily driving a clean MY8 Fiero if one came along.

My appliance has been quite happy.

Out exploring an abandoned mine on an ice road:

This thing has been on a few great adventures so far. Still waiting for another wagon to come along one day though.

Finally broke down and bought a truck again. 2019 F150XLT 5.0 4x4 supercrew short bed with 58k miles on it. SO far I'm very happy with it. I'm looking forward to a few camping trips with my son this Fall.

Nothing like treating your car to a pro photo shoot. Cleaned up nicely, that Chevy.

Here's my work truck, broken down at a gas station entrance after the fuel pump went out in traffic. I still like driving a Transit better, but the E-series is okay too apart from reliability issues (or our shitty maintenance/tendency to whale on the trucks).

Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing.

First time back on the road since my dad blew it up in 1997.

It feels really good drive this car legally. I've been taking it everywhere.

(Used to sneak out in it as a kid all the time.)

10 days, 5 provinces, 6200km, and a ton of ghost towns/abandoned houses/schools/mines/etc.

I brought a tool kit, but didn't need to even look at it. This beast has taken me almost entirely across the country now, from BC to Newfoundland. Just need to hit the territories, PEI, and Labrador.

I've been driving a 56 year old Beetle, a Fiero and a Hyundai Pony all summer without issue. I went to go check out my "dream" Fiero yesterday with the appliance (the Rav4) yesterday and the bastard left me stranded without warning with a seized alternator.

Funny, the alternator took 20 minutes to replace, the electronic power steering fuse I aggressively yanked out so I could get home sans charging system (CAA had a 4 hour wait time) took over an hour. It's bolted in underneath the fuse panel, which you have to disassemble to remove the fuse (if you want to remove it without yanking it out with vice grips). Oops. Alternator was here at 8 am, the fuse was another story, but it gave me a couple of hours to install the Old Man Emu lift kit and the larger tires. It looks cool- it looks like the way they should have been sold.

And yes I bought the Fiero, so I now have a V6, manual notchback, an '88 Formula T-Top manual notchback and an '87 GT fastback. I'm probably satisfied with the collection now, unless a clean early 4 cylinder manual one comes up.

Of all the bad cars to become suddenly obsessed with... I really fell for these things.

What was the fuel bill?

I sold my 4Runner... but someone randomly stopped by and offered a ridiculous amount of money for it so I'm not overly upset.

It was just under $1200. Fuel prices ranged from 1.95 to 1.30ish. I estimated around $1500 so not too bad. Just missed the wagon a little bit, haha

I got a bunch of compliments on my truck on the trip...some random in AB came up to us and said he loved the truck and it was his dream truck, and another Taco person drove by us at a rest stop and complimented it in SK. Both times directed at my boyfriend of course...but he corrected them.

My only complaint about the truck is a weird whistling noise that we've only ever heard in the prairies with a certain cross wind. It sounds like a pinched balloon. It sounds like the windshield seal maybe? Eitherway, very annoying when it's going on for 400km.
