My own stupidity hard at work. Took both tires out on the same pothole. Also I hope that Range Rover looks better underneath than it does up top.
Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing. |

Ouch. Those moments hurt. My last flat was in a car loaded with stuff during a move (and two cats) on the side of a 12 lane expressway... and the spare was flat! It's remarkably solid underneath, it spent most of its life in the desert so it's somewhat of a survivor. The hood is definitely the worst part, and it's been replaced at some point (it used to be green). It's cool how they come apart, even the roof unbolts. I'll probably bring random body parts into the garage to media blast them and refinish them one at a time.

Found a really, really solid and low mileage Omni in the scrapyard- actually convinced the yard owner to sell it, and I drove it onto the car dolly!
One owner car, 51,000 km on it. It has a weird option group- no passenger side exterior mirror, no center console, but it has a 5 speed instead of the 4 speed, and full instrumentation (tach, oil pressure, volt meter, coolant temp). And the reason? Well, I like boxy hatchbacks, it'll look cool with my Pony and my Rabbit, and also because I've been hoarding all of the parts from my former '85 Omni GLH since 1999.

Oh I've beaten so many Omnis... actually, only officially killed one to the point where it wouldn't move any more. This one will be preserved and loved very much. It definitely needs a starter... it won't work when it's warm. The odd thing is, the starter for an '86 is $30, the starter for an '87 is $130... I don't ever recall having an issue with interchangeability back in my 2.2 Chrysler days when every starter I replaced came off of another car in a scrapyard. Almost considering ordering the $30 one just to see.

Also, it pays to never get rid of stuff sometimes.
(Although I tried many times with the service manuals... thankfully nobody was interested at $2 a pop)

I took the Taco on a bit of an adventure - swimming and some rock crawls. Early on in the trail I made a comment about how easy the trail was. I shouldn't have said that. I ended up high siding the truck a couple of times and getting stuck on a rock. The long wheel base was a bit annoying, but it was a good day and a lot of fun! On the second portion of the trail, we ended up having to get chainsaws out to start cutting trail. Naturally I had to start playing the Expedition Overland theme song in the truck. The down fall ended up being too thick for the group to possibly cut through with the chain saws and fuel that we had, so we ended up turning around. It was a good ~6h on the trail though! Photos definitely don't do the trail justice.
Thanks Brind for the photo of me on the rock (I ended up getting over it):

It's getting late in the season to enjoy, but I finally cracked. My business partner bought himself a 2012 Carrera S during the throes of a midlife crisis, and after driving it myself I was hooked. I won't be "mid-life" for another 7 or 8 years, but you're never too young to appreciate the merits of a finely built rear-engine, RWD sports coupe Found a good deal on this fairly low mileage 2010 Carrera and pulled the trigger. It was a bit of an impulse buy so we'll see how long I end up keeping it for (I'm still quite happy with the STi), but you can believe I'll enjoy the shit out of it for as long as it's mine. It may not be the 911 Turbo or GT3 I *really* want, but it's one hell of a stop-gap until I can afford one of the grails.
