I think if you have a white ranger you can park most places with out looking suspicious. Get a clip board, hard hat, maybe a safety vest and I don't think you'll ever be questioned.

It's kind of cheating but there is an abandonment just out of the frame. I thought I'd go for the idyllic cityscape shot and it's the only one I have left on flickr. If nothing else the car could count as an abandonment because when I got it it was living in a farmer's field with a horrible mouse infestation. It was like a mini-abandonment.
