| | | I'm here today at Dejarnette, well across the street at the hotel. Looks like nothing is boarded up yet. This is my halfway point between my house and where I work up in NY. I'll be back at the end of the month on my way home and then Cocoa Beach FL, there is a site down there to check out. I'll check it out after work one day.

| | | They have been talking about sealing up that place for at least 5 years. The last few times I have been, I did not even bother to take my camera out of my bag. Even before the overkill of vandalism, it was a pretty boring place. The power plant is by far the most interesting part of the grounds.

| | | Just saw some pics taken over the weekend. They have definitely started. All of the trees, bushes, etc. that had grown up around the buildings are gone. I'm sure the boarding will begin soon.

No joke! They killed all the ivy, too. I liked the Ivy. The place looks.. cold. Like a freshly shorn lamb.

| | | It looks great, but for photography purposes...they took all the good stuff away...lol but it may just be like everywhere else, board it up, give it a few months and someone will have those boards torn right back down...or at least some of them. thanks for posting updated pics [last edit 7/30/2009 6:47 PM by deviantbutterfly - edited 1 times]

You are correct. Just give it a few months.

Yup. Every window, on every floor. So even if you get in it'll be pitch black inside.

| | | Re: Dejarnette Asylum Update <Reply # 56 on 9/7/2009 9:45 PM >
| | | Whaaaaat.
WHSV News Officials in Staunton have completed work to prevent vandalism at a historic building. (Aaaaaand... by the way, this is only because they don't QUITE have enough money to completely raze it to the ground.) |
They should just come out and say it was a legal liability instead of pretending like their motives have anything to do with preservation or history. I know it was kind of lame compared to a lot of other abandoned mental institutions, but I'm really glad I made it up there before all this went down.

| | | This place looks awesome. I love the photos. And as for the "morgue" I dont think they are bad. I love the stair case!! I have always wanted a spiral. It really sucks they would board this up. I mean they should at least do something with it. I loved it just from the inside photos, but the outside is amazing. Children + Asylum = awesome! That lady should have taken photos of her kid there... Does anyone worry about asbestos? If its one time I think we would be cool, but most of us are going to these places over and over... I worry a little about it but I dont know how to protect myself. Any advice is welcome, thanks. (I would have probably stopped by if I had extra time when visiting my boyfriend for this place. It would be a five hour drive for me as well, but not if I were in VA.)
