i've never had any trouble at ANY of the hospitals in VA (well, cept eastern state, but the cop there is a douche, and only really cares about one of the buildings anyway). The most likely to catch you are the grounds workers, and most of them couldn't give a shit. They're all pretty cool too, know a lot of history about the buildings. One was happy to show me around Western.

The party was probably the problem. Try and always go on a "quiet day". Mondays, Wedensdays, and Sundays are mine. For some reason, not as much going on almost anywhere.

Well, there was some sort of private party/ event going on, so that may have had something to do with it. There was also 5 or so of us, so that didn't help either. We ran into some of the party-go'ers in there, and I guess when security told them they weren't allowed in there they said they saw us. Or we could've been spotted. The bottom line is, they were super nice to us because they thought we were with the party, and we didn't get in trouble.

Was it on a Saturday or Sunday? They have open houses on those days. Even if it wasn't I've often seen people walking around who I assume were looking at condos and wanted to stroll around the campus. Also. There were plans (not sure if the ball is still in motion) to convert the admin building into a hotel, and I'm pretty sure they conduct tours of that building for investors or potential condo-purchasers

Were you with Smackthatbird? I could've given you guys some advice! I know I was supposed to guide that trip initially, but he never got back to me. I would've still given you guys some protips even if you thought the party was too big, I'm not that easily offended..

no. drove up there today. walked around easy peasy. there were actually a number of people strolling around campus. visited all the buildings (yay). and only POSTED/no trespassing signs on ONE of the buildings. The really boring one.

dejarnette, however, completely different story. they boarded the poor building to hell.

Aw dude, people need to hit me up when they're in Staunton! I'm so starved of local exploring buddies

Yeah, it's totally doable. I don't think we would have gotten caught if it wasn't for the party and the size of our group. And the security guard was really cool. The first thing he said to us was "boo!"

^ It was on this trip.

We also drove by Dejarnette while we were there. We didn't walk right up to it and look thoroughly since we were short of time but we didn't see any obvious entrances; looks as boarded up as ever.

So what is going on with this place? Is it still viewable? I am trying to get a trip organized somewhere within a four or so hour drive.

lol, you want to drive four hours to see Dejarnette?? I'm sure there are much better places to go, and i'd hope you'd stop in at other places along the way.

It will be a road trip where we stop at other places and camp out here and there, it is just something to do. Beats sitting at the house all winter and not doing much

So I and a friend of mine explored this place over the weekend. There is still ways to get in however once your in its completely dark except for a few skylights. Despite the darkness I got a few shots of the inside as it currently stands. It has been vandalized but it is also still in a more natural state of decay for the upper floors.

Anyway on to the pics.

Yep every single window and door was covered. (almost)

It was quite rainy so it just added to the creepiness.

:insert stereo typical horror movie clip:

Okay its not that bad.

Some of the "vandalism" that is more art than destruction.

I assume this was the last group of kids kept here before they were moved to the new location?

More graffiti

Decay of painted tile.

Natural light at the end of the hall

Sim Rounds. Someone had a lot of fun in here. The first two floors were covered with them.

Sealed up.

The rights of a child.

Skylights on the third floor.

Peeling paint outside.

Door to the roof. (there were yellow jackets that had a nest in the door frame)

Aside from the bees and a few birds in the roof that was all the wildlife that we found. No snakes were found.

Oh yeah, This would be my first post on the forums so hello as well.

The only thing I found sketch about the place was it's history. Even in darkness its not that scarry. Some of the high security rooms are cool to see. I wish it were not so tagged.

Thanks for the definitions, guise. I somehow thought someone was worried about drawing in Dejarnette, silly me.

As you were.

I may have an opportunity to visit here (and said "place up the road") soon-ish but it's a bit out of my way. If anybody has any input that might help sway me to go or to better spend my time elsewhere, I'd appreciate a reply or a PM. If I do end up going, I'll post about what I find. Cheers.
