	In one of his first movie, "La maudite galette" by Denys Arcand, you can see a view of Turcot Yards from St-Jacques Street at the beginning of the movie. The movie was shot in the early seventies I think.

C'est poche ça. Qui est-ce qui va faire 45 minutes de routes pour aller magasiner dans le milieu de nul part? Argh... anyway.

Faut donc aller faire un tour avant que l'aéroport disparaisse... C'est le proprio de l'hôtel qui doit être content de cette nouvelle vocation là.

	Je vois mal comment ce projet va fonctionner à long terme... Comme l'aéoroport l'était, le centre aquatique sera mal situé et trop éloigné de la population. 	Pour ceux qui ne fréquentent pas Radio-Canada.ca : Le consortium européen I-Parks-Oger International veut transformer l'Aéroport international de Montréal-Mirabel en un vaste centre de divertissement. La direction d'Aéroport de Montréal (ADM) a conclu un protocole d'entente avec ce consortium. Le complexe nommé Rêveport comprendrait des installations pour la détente et la relaxation tel spa, hammam, sauna et balnéothérapie. Une plage intérieure au climat tropical serait accessible toute l'année et des dômes géodésiques projetteraient les visiteurs sur des planètes imaginaires et des mondes insolites. La plage et l'aquarium géant seraient aménagés dans la totalité de l'aéroport d'une superficie 100 000 mètres carrés. Une galerie commerciale, des jeux d'arcades, une discothèque/karaoké aquatique, des restaurants gastronomiques, des bars, un musée, un hall d'exposition et un studio de télévision compléteraient les installations. Le complexe récréatif, qui coûtera 100 millions de dollars, devrait disposer également d'une garderie. L'ancien hôtel Château Mirabel d'une capacité de 355 chambres serait rénové pour accueillir les visiteurs. Les travaux de rénovation de l'hôtel commenceraient en juin 2006, selon le protocole d'entente, pour se terminer à l'automne. La deuxième phase des travaux devrait commencer à ce moment avec le début de l'aménagement de l'aérogare. Une ouverture progressive des installations est prévue pour la fin de l'année 2007. La tour à bureau et le stationnement de 5813 places de l'aéroport sont aussi inclus dans le projet. Le protocole d'entente prévoit un bail initial de 25 ans auquel pourraient s'ajouter deux périodes supplémentaires de 5 ans. Le consortium est composé de I-Parks Creative Industries, une société française spécialisée dans la conception, la promotion, le financement et la gestion de parcs récréotouristiques. L'autre partenaire est Oger International, une des premières sociétés d'ingénierie de la construction au monde. Ça a jamais été fini. Comme le fameux "train express" qui devait relié Mirabel au centre-ville de Montréal. C'est jamais arrivé.

Mais c'était dans les plans originaux.

Pour le zonage, avec tout le lobby des citoyens, moi je doute qu'ils auront jamais le droit de rezoner mais bon... on verra bien.

	vraiment, ça sent le gouffre financier. Au moins le gouvernement n'investira pas un sous là-dedans (enfin pas directement). Au moins, on peut se consoler en se disant que ça crééra quelques emplois le temps que ce sera ouvert et durant la construction, et dans quelques années on aura le plus gros centre d'attraction abandonné au Canada . http://www.magazin...dossiers/index.htm

cest pas le zonage local, laeroport est dans une zone "touristique" depuis des annees, cest le zonage de transports canada pour avoir le droit de operer autre chose dans le terminal, comme adm est une branche de transports canada et ils sont fort sur le projet ca fera sans trop de trouble

I read that there will be an initial lease of 25 years, with two 5 year options after that. I guess ADM believes that PET will handle all of Montreal's air traffic for at least 25 years. They also said that renting out the site guarantees the property would still be available for use as an airport if it's needed in 35 years... how is that possible if they turn it into a giant beach/aquarium? This sounds quite similar to the group that wanted to buy land from the port of montreal (around and including the bickerdike pier) to build some monstrous theme park. The Technodome was the name if I am not mistaken... That didn't make sense, and I don't think this Mirabel thing does either.

ADM mentionned the airfield will remain untouched as it is still one of the busier airports in terms of movement passengers or not, if in the future a terminal needs to be built it would be located south of the airfield to allow for easier rail access.
