INTERPOL WOULD LIKE TO CONDUCT PUBLIC SAFETY TRAINING IN QUEBEC
April 1, 2005

The prestigious police organization Interpol is thinking of establishing an international center of public safety training on the site of the airport of Mirabel to Quebec. According to information obtained by La Presse, this training center would occupy the vacant installations of the airport located at the north of Montreal. Police officers from everywhere in the world would come there to familiarize themselves with most recent technologies of information and intervention, in particular as regards prevention of terrorism and in air safety. The financing of the project, whose costs remain to be evaluated, would come from the governments of Canada and Quebec. The secretary-general of Interpol, Ronald K Noble, who was in Montreal Thursday affirmed that the site of Mirabel has an enormous potential.

a+

Whatever they do with the airport, they better be able to still use it as an airport in 15-20 years. I hope the governments realize that while Mirabel is currently useless as an airport, the population will continue to grow and the greater Montreal area will eventually need another airport. If they turn it into an aquarium or shopping mall, they might find 20 years down the road that they need to build another airport.

It's not that they'll need another airport for growth of population, it's that the new generation of planes will be bigger and will need longer and wider runways, which can't be built at Dorval due to high-density residential areas around the current airport. But that move to close mirabel was well-thought about and was a move to isolate Quebec during the years when independance was high in surveys.

No int'l flights to Quebec in 20-25 years : looks bad for an independant country...

Swanny, in 15-20years everybody will drive super-mega fast flying cars, planes will have become obsolete & airports will be used for a weird new Olympic sport called walking aimlessly. Well, that's until the great walking doping scandal in 2042.

In any case there won't be any need for these so called airports.

I'm not a prophet, I'm just special.

Anyway. Je sais ce que je sais. That's all.

I found these of Mirabel.

Nice aerial picture of Mirabel taken from the north.

Lower shot of runways.

And what it sadly looks like inside...no people.

Inside during the day.

Still no people.

I'm not sure, but I think the hotel in question is on the left, under/behind the road signs.

Edit: Added more links.

Sorry to come in here late.

I am interested in all things Turcot so aside from Sci-Fighters does anyone know of any other films where Turcot Yards and/or Turcot Interchange can be seen?

thanks,
