A 20' flashlight is just a flashlight. Very different than carrying a baseball bat or something like that.

If you were cornered, you could get away with whacking someone with it.

If you used it properly in a situation that req'd self defence, I can't see them questioning you on it...

A bigger issue here might be how to know when to justify use.

Well I guess we have to answer seriously now, so I don't recommend taking a batleth. It takes years of training to master one.

The reason security guards carry maglites is that they can legally get away with hitting people with it...provided they carry it raised up (like they do) and they can claim they attacked with it instinctively. When your arm is raised up to strike, if something startles you you apparently can't be blamed for striking it. So always have your arm in that position and you're fine legally.

Anyway, that's for guarding private property, not urban exploring.

I'd say a flashlight can make a fairly good defensive device, maybe a multitool like a wave, surge or charge with a quick outside opening blade. Personally i'd use my feet and run like hell before it came to those options.

Agreed. I think it would be best to try and avoid injury to either party if possible.

Haha, I'm not actually. I don't even own an airsoft toy. When I typed all of that I thought somebody would figure me for a Medal of War Duty (or whatever the damn games are called) geek, which I'm not either. I'm a true firearm owner/enthusiast.

BAM!

Here's what I carry. Not only for UE but I have it with me at all times. It's amazing how often one of these comes in handy. Battery life is great, the thing is durable as hell, waterproof up to 30 feet or so, and has two brightness settings of 75 lumens (mini mag light) and 200 lumens (10x brighter than 2D cell Mag light), annnnnnd it has those neat bezels on the front and back for defense. I've tried it before in darker places and it's way more than enough to blind someone and run away and, if need be, crack them on the forehead with the front strike bezel. The shock alone from being hit with that has been reported to knock people unconscious. Also works as a glass breaker lol. Seriously though, I never go anywhere without my Surefire E2D LED, the thing is awesome for everyday use as well as UE.

Brains are the best weapon I've found. It doesn't hurt to have a pack of smokes handy as well. Most homeless people will melt in hand like butter once you give them two or three cigs.

I'm trying really hard to to be an ass because this is the rookie forum, but seriously? Posting shit like that'll get you chewed out faster than anything here. If you're going around abandonments breaking glass and bashing skulls I don't paricularly want you anywhere near this hobby!

Is it bad that I am more upset about the glass breaking than the skull bashing?

Who said I was going around breaking glass or cracking skulls? I carry this everyday so if I get in a car accident or something and need to break a window to get out then so be it. And as far as bashing skulls, if someone's trying to get violent or hurt me then yeah I'm gonna hit him. I wasn't referring to only UE uses when I was talking about it. I take pride in knowing I dont go to a site intending to screw stuff up. I guess maybe I should've been more clear?

Dude, I haven't seen that movie in so long. That guy was great. I would've loved to have a principle like that in school lol.

LOL crenelated bezel. I never liked strike bezels - if I hit you with anything hard in my fist, it'll hurt, no matter if it's spiky or if you only catch a corner of the bezel itself.

Any bright Flashlight. And if I'm going alone I bring a pistol. I live in Wa state and have a concealed carry permit. In all the years I've carried a gun I haven't once even thought I may need to use it.

and just think about it, you're already in an abandonment! there isn't a better place to stash a dead body - especially one of a vagrant.

Hell I wish we could do that out here. You know the whole Kali crap, being an anti gun state and all. Although, there are many areas here where open carry would be legal but most of the times cops don't even know its legal to do and give you crap for it. If I could I'd carry, but this state makes it such a damn hassle I just settle for the Surefire and my knife :/
