Hmmm, seems if they torched it to get out of the payments (called selling it to the insurance company) it would have liability as well.

I'm just glad that:

* Nobody was hurt.

* Nobody has mentioned going to Woody's and finding nobody there, 'cause I didn't make it either.

I'm not quite sure how this works, but the owners of the white car (they seem shady, I tell ya!) Have another car that they drive. It's actually a truck.. and it has insurance, but they claim the white car did not have insurance since they never drove it. So who knows.

So now that I've completely derailed and taken over this thread with my own drama... (but i feel much better now, thanks.) When is the next meet up, and who all is going to be there? I miss seeing you guys.. and I need to get out and explore something. I am of course assuming all will be well by then and back on track and I will be able to make it. I want to make it happen... so discuss.

In a terrible misuse of my "event organizer" position, I've already declared that the the September meetup will be in Deep Ellum, because that's the weekend that the first segment of the Green Line train starts running. The 30-foot-tall Traveling Man statue and the new murals should offer great photo ops, if the weather cooperates.

My preference would be the pizza joint where we met the first time I herded these cats, back in April 2008:

Zini's Pizza in Deep Ellum
2639 Elm St.
Dallas, TX 75226
http://www.zinispizza.com/

The website indicates that they're 1) still open and 2) open Sundays. In fact, they're open until Midnight Sun-Thurs (later on Fri-Sat, and even later all week long at their Oak Lawn location). Plus, the pizza was good, and they had a great little upstairs loft that's perfect for a UE takeover.

Parking was a pain in the butt last time. It won't be an issue this time -- just take the train to Deep Ellum Station!

Event page updated. Now, the only questions are the time and date, Saturday (9/12) or Sunday (9/13)? It's currently still set for Sunday, 2pm.

Saturday!

(Am I allowed to change my mind later since I'm always being accused (being a woman and all.. not that I personally get accused... ever.) of always changing my mind, especially at the last minute?

But I won't change it...

Edit to add: I just changed my mind about that last sentence I wrote. I *might* change my mind about changing my mind last minute. So that's cool, right?

Saturday has the advantage of making it an all-train trip for folks coming from the Wild West. Just park at the station in downtown FW, hop on the TRE (fares are going up, but not until the Monday *after*), get off at Victory Station (don't stay on until the end like you used to), then catch the Green Line straight to Deep Ellum. (Edit: Fixed the transfer point.)

You talked me into it. It even works for our Jewish exploring contingent, because it doesn't require driving on the Sabbath! If there are no major objections, I'll swap it over to Saturday September 12. That's still the *second* Saturday.

Does 2pm still sound good? If we go much later, we'll end up in the weekend Deep Ellum traffic... on the other hand, we won't care, because we didn't drive!

There's that old dry-storage building in Fort Worth where they cut out a corner for the TRE, instead of tearing it down like they would have in Dallas. Are you thinking of finding a place where you can jump on, or just wanting to make sure you don't get scraped off?

(Just kidding -- at least I am, with Musket you can never know...)

Go to the Event Listing and see what you think. At the worst, you get to try out a new pizza place.

Head out to Zini's early on 9/12, 'cause there's going to be free stuff at the train station. See details on DART's site: Green Line Super Saturday

2pm, second Saturday, at Zini's in Deep Ellum, see you there!

Alright, it's coming up this Saturday! Plans are always fluid, but I think a little bit of train 'n drain might be fun afterwards. But if any of the hydrophobic set has another suggestion, throw me a bone!

Heh I bet. Wearing them through the park after we came out of Kidd Springs also got a fair share of weird looks. Apparently most people don't walk around in them, but I think they're quite fashionable.

If anyone's looking to ride the train from Fort Worth on Saturday (THIS Saturday), you'll either need to come early, or be fashionably late. Early would be the most fun, because DART has celebrations planned at all the new Green Line stations.

To get there early:
Depart Fort Worth T&P Station: 11:42am
Arrive Dallas Victory Station: 12:47pm
... then just take the Green Line train (it only goes one direction until 2011)

The next train leaves FW at 1:12, and doesn't get to Victory Station until 2:17. That would get you to Zini's somewhere around 2:45, which is well within the range of UER folks straggling in to a meetup.

Other hints:

* Be sure you buy a Premium (two-zone) Day Pass if you're coming from Fort Worth.

* Don't forget to get off at Victory Station. The Green Line doesn't go to Union Station.

* If you do forget, get off at Union Station and catch a northbound train (Red "Parker Road" or Blue "Downtown Garland"), then get off at the next stop to switch to Green ("MLK").

* Fares go up and schedules change on *Monday*, so don't bother committing all the times and rates to memory.

I'll be heading out soon, rain or shine. Though the rain probably means no draining, unless someone would like to be on the news (posthumously).

Judging from the reply list, I may be enjoying a quiet pizza dinner by myself. But that ain't so bad...
