I hate to be boring, but the String Bean was really good. They put us in a back room, where we had plenty of room to stretch out. They didn't have any problem at all with the indeterminate number of possible guests, and for some reason they were tickled that I reserved a table for "Amanda". On top of that, the service was top-notch, and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. Or maybe I'm just a sucker for chickin 'n dumplins.

Would anyone mind terribly if we went there again for March?

After that, it might be time to visit Fort Worth again. If someone could scout out a location near the Stockyards for April, that would be especially appealing.

I'm cool with String Bean. Its close to me and I could use some country cooking

We have two *female* votes in favor (and I think my daughter will like it too), so I think I'll declare the case settled. String Bean it is!

Ok, definitely String Bean for a week from tomorrow, 6pm, ask for Amanda. If the current RSVP list pans out, it'll be awesome.

For April, I think we need to find someplace in Arlington, preferably close to the Ballpark. Because tickets for the Rangers exhibition game against Kansas City at 1pm are just four bucks, and I haven't been to a ball game in years. So that's where I'll be coming from.

If it wasn't so overpriced I would love to go to six flags...or the water park...or ripleys cause they're all right there but that's more of a middle of the week thing though because of all the crowds...but anywhere in Arlington is good, that's not to far from me really, and I'll be on break the first week in April so no worries about projects interfering either so yay ^_^

wow only $4 for tickets, I haven't been to a ball game since I was like 7...do they have peanuts and cracker jacks? *now has song stuck in head*

According to the Newberg Report:
[Tickets] go on sale Saturday, March 7 (at 9 a.m.). More details here: http://texas.range...egame.jsp?c_id=tex

Also, tickets for the Saturday, April 4 exhibition game against the Royals at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington will be available that same day for $4.00. Any regularly priced ticket up to $25 for the 1:00 game will cost only four bucks.

Are there enough baseball fans to have a mini-meetup out behind the outfield bleachers?

For the actual meetup, what about Colter's BBQ? There aren't many left, but one of the last holdouts is on Collins St. near Randol Mill.

It's not a particularly constructive comment (Sorry), and I doubt it would be a feasible location, but I'll go ahead and name-drop Café Brazil because I Love it so.

I didn't know Cafe Brasil served Freegan! Awesome!

I've been to the one in Bishop Arts (just once, though), and they seemed pretty good. French Toast was good for breakfast, but we'll be a bit later than that. What do they have for dinner that's good (and cheap (especially cheap))? Does the one in Arlington have enough room for a party of (somewhere between one and a dozen)? (And what makes you think the suggestion isn't constructive?)

Gotta admit, Colter's isn't going to be very friendly to anyone on the vegan side, though they do have a small salad bar (I think) and a good variety of veggies. We're a pretty varied bunch, though, with both carnivores and herbivores represented to some extent.

Erm, well freeganism as I understood it is essentially the recycling of thrown away food. Read: dumpster diving. Useful for living on the cheap/free so one can be a career explorer worldwide. In that sense, every restaurant serves freegan

I did not know they had one in Arlington - I have only been to the one off of US-75 and... Mockingbird? I think it is the University Park one. I've seen another, but it was always closed when I was there. The one on 75 is 24/7. Pricing is kind of eh... $7-8 for an entrée. Every time I've been to Café Brazil (2AM post bar rush) it's been pretty packed. Dunno what it's like any other time of the day. Seating for a large group (more than 6 or 8) might be kind of sketchy.

All this again is based of my experience at the ONE location so *shrugs*

I believe breakfast/coffee is kind of their thing as I understand it, so you should be able to get whatever you want anytime.

Oh, *Freegan*. I remember my Freegan period. Right after moving out on my own, delivering pizzas in pre-casino Bossier City. The primary source of Freegan food was the lunch buffet, which was (or, would have been) discarded after 2pm. Management cut off that practice after too many large pizzas with extra meat were placed on the buffet at 1:50, NOT by me. After that, I can't say I remember for sure, but it's a well-known fact that people tend to order more pizza than they can eat...

That makes me remember when I lived in CO, my friend and I would frequent the only 24 hr truck stop in town because after midnight they would get rid of the hot dogs so we would go and get all we wanted for free, I got free pizza when I worked for Papa Johns too, oh those were the days

I forgot how close that would be. Sounds promising -- good burgers, reasonable prices. My only concern would be whether they can find a spot for us.

I saw something on Food Network yesterday -- I didn't know that Dallas was the home of the original Pig Stand, the first "Drive-In" restaurant. Makes me kinda proud that my daughter is a skating carhop herself. Though I suppose if there were still a Pig Stand around, it wouldn't have much seating room either.

Thinking about this weekend is making me hungry, so far it looks all clear so I should be there, can't think of anything I'd rather do more with my saturday night. I'm supposed to move furniture on sunday so this will be a nice reprieve.

Tomorrow, the String Bean, 6pm, be there or don't. 4 for sure, and 6 maybes, so it could be awesome.

(Nixxy, you may want to twist Happiedaze's arm if you want to increase the estrogen level, because my daughter can't make it. Sorry! I blame her boyfriend. )

I have somewhere to be at 7:30 for sure, but I'm going to try to make it to the meet. I wonder how close The String Bean is to Forum Roller World..?

You mean the one by the old Wal-Mart in Grand Prairie? Too far -- the String Bean is in Richardson. Nixxy, unless we can recruit someone else (where are you, FireworksOrStars?) it looks like you're going to have to supply the good looks & charm for the entire group again.
