Hey everybody!!!

My name is Dave and I have been a member for about a month. I came across this site while doing some research for a paper I was writing. I have been a spelunker(caver) for a long time and I look forward to getting into the UE world. I live in Kentucky and will travel just about anywhere. I lived in CT for a few years and went through the old Norwich State Hospital. I think everyone in that state has been through there. So now I am back home in Kentucky and looking for some nearby people to join up with and start exploring.

Hey, I doubt anybody will actually read this so I'll make this quick, haha.

I'm a student at a major university here in Columbus, OH. I've been into UE for a few years now, but have only experienced a handful of abandonments firsthand. I discovered the concept of UE through my study of photography, quickly realizing that I was especially fond of photos featuring old/abused/disused infrastructure/industry/anything at all! Infiltration introduced me to the hobby, and I quickly became enthralled (couldn't resist buying a shirt). I've been hooked ever since.

If you're in the central Ohio area, get in touch with me and we'll have a great time. I'm willing to travel just about anywhere within a one state radius on short notice, and farther afield during the summertime.

I've lurked here for ages, and since I intend to ramp up my exploration I thought it'd be a good time to join the community and get in touch with some like-minded folks.

If you did actually read this, thanks a lot and I hope to one day meet face-to-face!

Hello!

I am the 28459th user to join UER and have been here for about a week.
I was referred to UER by a member here!*waves*I am a rookie from Southern Ontario,Niagara area.

I'm happy(relieved) now that I can post and hope to become a part of your awesome community!I have only recently...well about 3 months ago I really started getting into photographing abandoned buildings.I have been on 4 roadtrips to date and think I have some pretty good stuff to share!

Again...awesome site and I just wanted to give a shout out to all the fantastic photographers on here. You guys have some really top notch shots...some of the stuff I have looked at is just incredible and I swear since I found this site all I do is explore in my sleep!lol

Here's just a sample of one location...If it looks familiar to anyone let me know!I know the lighting could be better but I swear I got some shots that are only half as bad!!

Thanks!

I was exploring the cave last night. That's why I was late.

Oooooh! My 7 days of waiting have finally passed!

I have been exploring and photographing abandoned areas for a few years now. Originally my interest was the photography, but now it's equal parts photography and pure curiosity/fascination.

I had no idea what I was doing was a full fledged hobby to so many until about two weeks ago, I stumbled across this site while looking up information on Whitby Psych (always a dream of mine to go to an abandoned psych ward, I was quite upset to learn it no longer exists)

Hopefully someone will be reading this, or I'll feel silly rambling at no one, hehe.

In case there are people lurking, here's a quick picture of the house I have been watching fall apart for years (taken May 2008...I will have to get around to scanning older photos of it, as I mostly use film...my digital camera has no manual settings, and I prefer my SLR)

I registered this account years ago, but completely forgot about it due to military service.

Anyway, I'm back and ready to get out and take some pictures. With any luck I'll have something to post about within a couple weeks.

Anyone in the Seattle area looking to poke around somewhere? Message me.

Saying hello. I'm from Parma, Ohio (near cleveland). Only recently gotten into UE heavily. At least enough that I'm taking pictures now. So far only been to one place where I've taken pictures. You can see them all at http://photos.vril...urban-exploration/. That link may change since I'm thinking of going to a different photo gallery program, hopefully I'll remember to change it here. Anyway, glad to be here. feel free to get a hold of me if you're around the area

Welcome! Be sure to say hi in the forum in your area by finding it on the "map" in the main page.

Post a little about yourself there and ask to meet with other members. If you found a site yourself, be sure to post pics as we love to see them.

Prolly the one thing not to ask is where to find sites or how to get into them. Discover them yourself, so you can be proud of what you did (that others didn't or couldn't do).

Again, Welcome!!

Hey, new UER user here. I was just wanting to say hello and formally introduce myself. My name is Pat I live in the Colorado Springs area and I have been doing some sort of exploration for a couple years now. I have done mostly drains in the past and my first abandonment was just a few weeks ago. I hope to really utilize this site and meet some new people to explore with and find some new sites in my area.

Hello all! I'm new to the site but not to exploring. I like to go to abandoned country houses and farms the best. That usually means a lot of gravel roads and obvious parking concerns. It's nice having an old truck that looks abandoned when it's parked.

I spend a lot of time here on UER looking at the great pictures that some of you post. Before I found this site I didn't really think about bringing a camera. I always just poked around and looked at stuff.

Today I went to an old house that my wife and I spotted. I took about 40 pictures and I will post a few of them in the Great Lakes forum shortly. I hope you'll take a look at them and tell me what you think!

Hey everybody.... well, it's probably just moderators that read this stuff, so, hey moderators!
I live in CT. so old hospitals are a dime a dozen for me. I have a couple favorites but I don't know if I should use real names yet.
I pretty much grew up exploring. There is a factory, a warehouse and an old sand and gravel company within walking distance from my house. Not to mention one of these infamous mental institutions right in my home town.
Needless to say, these were my favorite stomping grounds as a kid.
I'm sure I have at least a couple locations to add to your list. First i'll have to become more familiar with the site and get photoshop so I can resize my photos.
I know, I know. What kind of caveman doesn't have photoshop? I know that's what you were thinking. It's okay.

Anyway, I think I'll enjoy the cite and I hope to see some interesting pictures and hear some interesting stories.
Thanks.

for resizing pictures there are plenty of free programs out there. On windows I really like paint.net http://www.getpaint.net/ as a general purpose photo editor. It can do the basics like resizing and I've had limited success in doing some HDR stuff with it. I use XnView http://www.xnview.com/ for browsing images and you can also batch covert a folder of pictures easily. I use image magik on mac and windows for resizing, but that's not very user friendly.

Oh, and welcome.

Ahoy there UER-ers,

Longtime site visitor, first time joiner. I'm looking forward to posting some very neat-o explorations I've done around California and Nevada that currently are not listed in the database. Among them, a mercury mine, a car garden, a failed housing development from the 1960s, a radio repeater station, and more.

My name's Devon and I currently reside in Goleta, CA, although I'm bound for the Gold Country this summer. My interests include friendly mutton chops, old-time music, road trips through bleak, desolate places, tobacco pipes, and trudging around among post-industrial ruins.

To everyone, thanks for all the cool outing ideas. Can't wait to add to them. If you live near me, let's plan an adventure.

-- Devon
