I am interested in Urban Exploration and photography.

I am not interested in petty politics.

I'm usually not interested in UE politics at all. I try to stay out of the petty disputes and ridiculous fueds that have cropped up from time to time. UER vs D5, UEA vs UER, the whole Australia thing, etc. However, I've been dissatisfied for some time about the direction UER has been heading, and Av's inability to see how certain behaviors can hurt the community of explorers that he's helped build here. Sometimes I spoke up about it, sometimes I simply agreed with others who advocated improvements to the community, but nothing really came of it. I've seen UER slowly change from a community of enthusiastic, responsible explorers into a B+E user guide for high school kids. Occasionally some of the older and wiser folks just dissappear, and everyone forgets about their contributions and advice.

It's great that UER and exploration is so popular these days, but I feel like there are a lot of things which could be handled in a more mature and responsible manner. Part of the reason I quit was that I no longer feel empowered to help foster that responsibility.

I sincerely hope every one of them reconsiders thier resignations after they calm down.

I don't think I ever got too worked up, it was more a feeling of resignation, like "whatever, this is the last straw". Now that I don't feel obligated to police forums and be a grammar nazi, I'll have more time to actually explore.

Edit: grammar nazi'd.

Freak, I still hope that you and the others who have resigned realise that your input and contributions to UER are valuable. Just because we (as a group of moderators) cannot always force Av to see things from our point of view does not mean that we should all give up.

UER is Av's website.

I am really surprised how personally people take things.

We are all adults right?

I hope you come back.

1) Realize that there are more important things in life than internet message boards.

2) Close your web browser. Fold your laptop, if you are using one, or shut off that monitor - those things waste a lot of energy.

3) Pack your gear bag. Check your flashlight batteries. Make sure you have fresh carties on your mask.

4) Go explore something.

hehe I think my boss would have a problem with that.

'why are you leaving work early?'

'oh cause I was told to go explore....' ;]

But on a more serious note...

I agree that we need to back up a step and realize that this site doesn't exist just because there's a site.

It exists as a RESOURCE for Urban Exploration.

It's a resource. just that. Make use of it or don't.

And for those of you complaining that this discussion is pointless, dumb or should be stopped... Nobody is forcing you to read it.

If you like UER for the database, use the database
If you DON'T like UER for the database, don't use the database.
Same logic applies to the forums.

Like I said, Nobody is forcing you to be here.

(Man Nobody... you sure are forceful!)

It's a tragedy.
It's exactly like a greek tragedy.
We should only be Greeks.

And on that note, I'm finally awake and caffeinated, and it's time to go play around at an asylum.

It's not personal, it's not about power over Av (at least not for me, can't speak for everyone). Maybe if I restate myself:

I feel uncomfortable with some of the administrative activities of this site.

Since I can't do anything about it, I no longer want to be a party to it.

Simple as that.

I'm going to go play outside now.

Here's what I want everyone out there reading this topic to do:

1) Realize that there are more important things in life than internet message boards.
True, but this one is better than Days of our Lives.

2) Close your web browser. Fold your laptop, if you are using one, or shut off that monitor - those things waste a lot of energy.

3) Pack your gear bag. Check your flashlight batteries. Make sure you have fresh carties on your mask.
Mask? Now THAT is being dramatic!

4) Go explore something.

In the end, that's what we're all here for, right? Right???

But you just told people to go explore and not look at a website!
Let's face it, UER is simply high drama entertainment. Even the LDB in the right Province/ state is just a grand comedic sounding board. "Giveaway to locations" my ass, it's hysterical!

Sorry to burst your bubble for any newish person reading this but you won't learn any secret tricks here, there are none, but you get to talk to a lot of like minded people; and as such it is a society, and with a society comes a ton of drama.

Now let's sit back and relax and have a nice warm glass of ..................................................................................
NInja tea.

New here so don't know/don't care much about the drama. All I'll say is this though...

1.) I think the ship has sailed on keeping this hobby on the DL, though I also think that interest in actually going to these locations is relatively limited outside of the under 18 crowd.

2.) This site is valuable if for no other reason than for photography and photography critique. For architectural photographers who like old abandoned buildings, this site is unbelievably valuable. I think it's great for giving you ideas in terms of where to look for locations, a few "starter" locations, and how to go about exploring them, but for me the real value is in photo critique and just generally seeing other photographers' work who have an interest in the same subject. The site is "worth it" on that point alone.

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.
