Where passenger trains go to get fixed:
I was kind of in a hurry; a bridge isn't the best place to be in a storm.

Great capture! I wish GO would give tours of that facility... it looks promising. Stuart St. Yard (thanks Jay), Hamilton:

Newhall Yard - San Jose, CA
(before they put up the new fencing...) Side note: This is the normal northbound freight coming from Salinas, CA and headed to the Martinez Sub, and on to the Sacramento Sub. There were at least 30 grain hoppers on this run, along with at least two UP DASH-9 units, and a good 45 other freight. The local yard goat is a converted SP SW1500 (UPY1121) and a nice GP40 UPY unit. -- Yes, I know my freight when I see it. That's why I call myself a train freak. When I talked to a local UP workman once, he asked me what train is coming and when. lol. Was pretty suprised I knew so much!

JPBX (Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board). They own the old WP line from SF Terminal down to the Tamien Station just outside of San Jose. Anything past that, they have track rights and track permissions with Union Pacific.

Which those rights came from Southern Pacific as SP did all commuter ops until the late 80s, right?
|
|
WP and SN used parts of SP's line until WP went out of business and sold it's share to SP. SP then ran the line until JPBX opened and bought it's track rights out. The UP bought out SP, and UP and JPBX now run the bay area lines. Confused yet? lol

Interesting in this photo, it looks like every 3 ties, they have placed a new tie between the ties. It is probably weight restricted and speed restricted, but still a usable line?
