| | | Posted by SiMuLaCrUm I live in Austin. I'd like to check out the old power plant by the lake. It's an art deco now? Last I heard, they were going to take it down...
|
Actually, exactly the opposite. They're going to "Austinize" it.

| | | I found an apartment/town home complex I'd like to explore. I'm a bit scared to do this one alone since there are a lot of homeless people in the area that may be squating inside. Anyone up for a group outing one weekend or is this one I should just let go?

| | | This building is being incorporated into a condo complex. From the website: "Once complete, the site will feature a mix of office space, local retail shops, contemporary condos, a boutique hotel, special event space and an outdoor terrace that overlooks Town Lake." http://www.ci.aust...olm/powerplant.htm There's lots of construction all around this place right now, and it's surrounded by fences with barbed wire. I would imagine trying to get inside this place undetected would prove somewhat of a challenge.

| | | I'm sure it is now... I did, however, get inside during the cleanup process. I believe it was Mox who was with me. That place has got that awesome classic Art Deco style and feel. "POWER" on one side and "LIGHT" on the other, almost like propaganda. Inside where the generators were (they were gone by the time I got inside) there are huge gaping holes that go down multiple stories. They'll have lots of underground room for whatever they decide to cram in there. Which is pretty unique to the area since there is no such thing as an Austin basement for the most part.

| | | Hey Rev! I didn't know you were still around. It was your SUV photo set on the downtown storm drains that convinced me to head down there last month. I put up some pics in one of the photo forums. Dunno if you saw em, but here's the URL: http://photos.hess...lery/5418284_6ZoeM You still actively exploring?

| | | Nice shots! Makes me want more decent portable lighting. I still explore when I can but I've just about done everything there is to do in the Austin area. Also, I have a newer (yet still not updated often) website. http://www.shatteredshutter.com While I'm at it, you can currently check out my photos at flightpath coffee house here in Austin until the middle of next month. In any case if you want to check some place out some time I might like to do that.

| | | As much construction as there is around there Seaholm is still entirely doable. They still don't know what exactly they are going to do with it, so it is still in stasis. The Holly Street plant on the other hand seems almost impossible to get into, actively guarded etc.
Rev I have to admit you lead me to several sites (I-35 tunnel for one) that I wouldn't have ever been to. Thanks!

| | | Hey, no prob. Hope you enjoyed. I've been trying to keep my eye on the Holly plant for a while but as you said, they have active security and appears to be staffed even though it's already shut down. I'd say it won't be too much longer before it's deserted but I haven't heard anything new.

| | | Hey guys, I'm new here and live in Austin. I'm up for a power plant adventure. I was there the other day scoping out the place and saw places that might be easy to get into. Also, where are "the ruins"? I've never heard of them for some reason.

| | | Hello all! I wanted to revive this thread rather than starting a new one I'm new to UER, but not really new to exploring. I've been in the Austin area for about 7 years now and I'd love to get together with some folks around here that are interested in romping through some abandoned buildings! I generally have to drag my friends kicking and screaming, so if anyone is up for something here please let me know!

| | | Hey, if you have some place you'd like to go check out I'm unemployed and bored. I really need to get out and scratch that UE itch.

| | | Eh, it's still usable but I wouldn't trust it if it was used from a height that would kill you from the fall. Oh yeah, and it was cheap.

| | | Greetings new Austin guy! (sorry I'm a little behind this week has been hell). I'd love to get together with you guys some weekend and go fill the UE void. Sadly weekends are about all I can do due to the normal day to day job. In fact, I just passed a place today that is a new building that looks like it was attacked by Godzilla or something that I want to get a closer look at. Sadly, I didn't have my camera on me, but there is just something about a building that is falling in on itself next to a "Now Leasing" sign that doesn't inspire confidence. But it does make me want to get a closer look! Anyone game?

| | | I too have work 5-9 every weekday. So I can usually only make successful UE runs on weekends. It's usually just me and a good friend of mine who go out and explore so far. We are in the process of scouting out places and making a list of places to check out in the Austin area. And has anyone checked out the athletic center by any chance? If so is it still up?
