I've been to the athletic center several times but they tore it down last year. Now you can hardly even tell that it was there.

Resident Austinite for about 25ish years, been UE'ing for a while and stopped out of fear of being caught. if those are interested check out around Lady Bird lake(town lake for those who remember it), and if those whom are brave enough look around Riverside...
Another thing, I usually work during the week but free on weekends.

I saw an abandoned apartment complex off lakeside. Looked pretty cool, overgrown swimming pool and all.

Ardamass and I will be in Austin this Friday the 17th till Monday the 20th and we are eager to explore all we can over the weekend. If anyone cares to meet up let us know, we could use a good tour guide to show us some of the better UE spots. Thanks.

I'm from Austin originally. I'd suggest going to the Austin State School in east Austin. It's off east MLK. There's also an abandoned steel mill or something to that effect near the river outside of downtown. I'll find some maps and send them your way.

Hey, just so you are aware, the Austin State School is currently being used and while there are a few vacant buildings still it could be more difficult. The easiest area is way back in the back where they have a baseball diamond and several apartment / group homes.

I haven't been to the steel mill in many years but I bet it will be fairly easy and interesting... I'd like to see it again myself.

There are also several tunnels that might be worth your time.

My weekend will probably be pretty open if you're still looking for some help.

I went to the State School about a month ago and there was no one and nothing there. The main administration building and the old cottage next to that were my main points of interest... as well as the water tower. But it was pretty easy access.

Next time I'm in Austin, I'll look you up, Rev... I've yet to explore any tunnels there, and I've seen some phenomenal tunnels made of brick on various forums. Something I'd like to see.

Right on, let me know when you're around.

The state school, however... I haven't been there as recently as you but last time I was there I had permission from the school administrator of the Austin College Prep school that had taken residence there. They were also constructing a new building. The Prep School is still there isn't it? They fill most of the old dormitories but it sounds like you didn't go to them.

I was there a couple of months ago. We went on a Sunday & there were a few random people there working, but we just wandered around without any problem. Several people saw us, but no one really stopped to say anything. It would definitely pose a problem to try & get into some of the buildings though. I saw a few places where the second floor window was accessible, and it could be crawled through, but it would have required being pretty visible to get up, so we didn't actually try to get in anywhere. I have yet to make it up to the houses, we spent so much time just wandering around the grounds & the cemetery.

I've not been to the old steel mill here, so I'll definitely have to check that out. I told Nixxy & Ardamas I'd play with them this weekend, so once we have a plan narrowed down I'll definitely let you know Rev!

Hey everyone, I moved to Austin a little under a year ago, and everything mentioned in this thread sounds amazing. Powerplants, tunnels and so forth. I'd love any info that anyone could provide.

The best way to start out would probably be to just wander the downtown area, and, as stated before if you're brave enough - the other side of I-35. (Just don't do it at night.)

The crown jewel here is (or was) probably the old Mueller airport. I say 'was', because I've gotten conflicting information on whether or not any of it is still standing.

well I am all for a little wandering, but I was actually looking for any specific info on the best place to enter either the tunnels or the powerplant. What times? things to bring besides flashlight, gloves and so forth...

the old control tower may still be standing. i heard rumors the city was going to leave it as a sort of memorial to the old airport, but as for the rest of the airport... it has been demolished a long time and replaced with a children's medical center or something to that effect. i haven't been in that part of austin in a couple of years, so i don't know for sure on that control tower. you should PM imbroglio about it. he took some awesome pics of it recently i believe.

Actually, those are pretty much exactly the sort of things that you won't find here. From the official FAQ, which I'm sure our esteemed moderator won't mind my quoting verbatim:

1. No animated images in posts or avatars.
2. No images in signatures, and keep signatures short.
3. Don't reveal entry details publically.
4. Don't post non-UE stuff in the UE boards.
5. Don't post porn or other adult content.
6. Don't spam our members.
7. Keep posts on-topic.
8. Respect all members of this forum.
9. Don't delete what you've said with the modify feature.
10. Respect the privacy of all members and explorers. Do not post anyone's personal information without their permission. Do not post anyone's likeness without their prior permission.
11. Use common sense. If you think it's not a good idea, it's probably not. We reserve the right to warn, tempban, or permban you if you violate the rules.

The bottom line: Don't be an idiot.

That said, I still find the banlist to be one of the most entertaining features of the site. Nothing like learning from others' mistakes.

Just got back in Austin from working in Alaska and I would be down for checking out some places. Like Rev, im currently unemployed with a lot of free time

I can show you the way into the power plant but i'd prefer to meet up somewhere else public so we could get a feel for each other first.

I'd love to go romping about with you, but I'm mostly only available on weekends, with the next two weekends out due to Relay For Life and a trip to Colorado (respectively).

Are you going to be back in Austin for a while, or are you just here for a visit before going back to the frozen tundra?

I was actually riding my bike around and scoping out the old power plant tonight. I saw the way in, but didn't go in because I wasn't prepared. I definitely want to go back soon. If you guys are gonna meet up, let me know. I'd love to go with some company.

Which power plant are you talking about?

Don't post it in public but I'd be interested in hearing what kind of entrance you found.
