Hey everyone, I've lived in Austin for 15 years. I'm pretty new to UE, and I've started searching high and low for places in Austin to explore. The few places I've managed to find here are never empty enough to safely check out. An update on the Travis state school, I was there last week and it is currently being used as a school for under privileged children or something to that effect. There are people crawling all over it, so without permission you're not going to be able to do more than drive around the parking lot.

Hey, I just moved into Austin, I've been looking into UE things for awhile but haven't actually tried to enter anywhere yet. I'd love to meet up with some people here who could show me the ropes, I'm here and free pretty much all the time...

I'm back to normal weekends again, which means I have weekends free for exploring. Seems like there have been more Austin folks around lately. Would anyone like to meet up sometime soon and maybe pick out a place to go?

We can start with a drain or something else easy as we're all getting to know each other. Travis State is also an option though, they only use a small part of it, but it is the front west area of the campus, so you have to bypass that area. Generally speaking it seems like if you're walking around like you're supposed to be there no one actually thinks twice about it. It might be a different situation with a larger group though.

Who's up for a meet-n-greet sort of thing?

I also still need to check out one of the Congress Ave tunnels. I've been a little way through one but not the other.

Also, the past week they have started demolishing the Thomas C. Green Water Treatment Plant. I don't know if there is much to see there but the crews are decommissioning it daily.

I would definitely be interested in a meet up with some people, nice way to test the waters (hopefully in multiple senses of the phrase)

Just got back from a couple of days in Austin -- it was a last minute thing, without much planning, so it was pretty normal for my bunch.

We got a kayak from Zilker park for the day, and took turns exploring Town Lake. I ended up under the Congress St bridge -- you know it's the right one when you hear the bats. And smell them.

I guess everyone in Austin knows about the drains on the north shore? I didn't have a flashlight, but I was able to go up the big round one all the way to the second branch tunnel with just the reflected light from the opening. Darn near lost a foot, though, on that jagged metal at the beginning. Yikes!

Didn't see the arched one until I was rowing back to let my daughters have a turn. D'oh! But at least I have a goal for next time.

Places that rock in Austin (partial list, since everything rocks):
* Barton Springs Pool and giant fish and turtles
* Kayaking, more fish and turtles, and bats, oh my
* Sally's Hamburgers and Frozen Custard. Too full after shakes & floats to get to the burgers this time, but they're good too.
* Diablo Rojo, on Guadalupe, has ear gauges that you don't find anywhere else, except for some online joints that ordered them from Diablo Rojo in the first place. I'm not one for adding additional ventilation to my body, but my daughter bought some really cool gaugers.

J'ai toujours fait une prière à Dieu, qui est fort courte.
La voici: "Mon Dieu, rendez nos ennemis bien ridicules!"
Dieu m'a exaucé.

Throwing this out: I was downtown today, and in trying to get from Guadalupe over to Lamar via cross-streets, I found a good-sized, abandoned-looking building.

The bottom windows are all boarded-up, and it's surrounded by a rent-a-fence. I think it may have been student housing at one point - on Nueces and 26th.
