| | Common Tools < on 8/3/2008 10:30 PM >
| | | What common tools should be used in an exploration? I've seen pics of explorers with anything from dust masks to just a piece of cloth over their faces. I know the common tools of a camera and a flashlight. What else would the veterans recommend? I have yet to go on my first exploration, btw... If there is someone in the Lawrenceville/Atlanta area planning one soon that wouldn't mind a rookie, please let me know. Otherwise, whenever I get back to my home town, I plan to try my first alone. Thanks for any advice...

| | | This thread might be a good start: http://www.uer.ca/...d=1&threadid=30971 As for myself, when I'm doing exploration, I make sure to bring a large hammer (to make entrance in windows), a crowbar (for locked doors) and a gas-powered jackhammer (For tightly sealed locations) . Just kidding, off course. When it comes to exploration, I like bring as less stuff as possible. I have my "exploration bag" packed and ready most of the time. It contains:
-Camera body -3 lenses -Tripod -P100 mask -Headlight -Water bottle -GPS (I kinda need it, I suck when it comes to road orientation) I might add a first aid kit soon, since I already had a few bruises/minor cut while exploring.

| | | Whatever you do get yourself a respirator, and not those stupid paper masks those are only for non toxic dust. You need one rated for mold asbestos and that kind of thing. A full face mask with dual filters and It's a good idea to wear goggles as well.

I've always been partial to venison and cappuccino. But Jannx carries the stove.

| | | I always work on bringing what I need but traveling light. So basically I just go naked and carry my car keys on a necklace. If and only if the terrain is rugged will I then wear shoes or boots. Other than than I got all the gear I need. Also, for in drains this approach works great, because you don't have to worry about getting your clothes when then. You can just go floating down the drain with the flow. It's like one of those lazy river rides, minus the sanitized water and clothing. Another plus to this method is that if you get caught, your trespassing is the least thing people are thinking about.

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit. |

Unbridled enthusiasm also helps. I once got two cops off my back by carrying on about neon signage and how great it is. If you know me, you know its true. Now that I think about it, cops seem to like bugging us when were not even plotting . WTF is that about?
