| | | | Images to critique... < on 3/23/2006 4:05 AM >
| | | Here are a few of what I think are my better images from the last couple months. Since everyone is so interested in HDR I'll note the ones which are bracket & blends (combination of two images done manually). I would appreciate some critique! Thanks in advance... 1 - Wrapped Angles
2 - Metropolitan State Hospital (bracket & blend)
3 - Asylum Outbuilding
4 - A Few More Afternoons (bracket & blend)
5 - Wash Up
6 - Buttery Light
7 - Bisected

| | | Some people got it....and some don't. You've got it! I'm not used to seeing topnotch photography so often as I have the last day or two on this site. Your images are all excellent+. You took a stairway - which 99 times out of 100 would have ended up looking mundane - and made it interesting. The bi-sected shot is even better. I like them all. Would like to know more about the low lying fog effect in the asylum shot though.

Thanks! I got hooked on that stairway. I have another image I really like on my site, and then another one I processed but never put up. Figured it was too much of the same subject...

Well, the low lying fog effect comes from....low lying fog. It was one of my first trips out there and it just happened to be like 50 degrees after it had snowed earlier in the week and the fog was CRAZY. It was actually hard to get good shots in it...that's definitely the best of the bunch. It also made shooting a nightmare. It was FREEZING COLD and dry inside, and extremely warm and humid outside...every time we made the transition the lenses and filters would fog unbelievably and it would take a few minutes for the temps to equalize so they didn't re-fog. Fun day though...

Thanks, yea, that's exactly what I was going for. I came to UE through photography, rather than the other way round. I've always been interested in photographing old buildings, and when I found that UE was this growing hobby I saw it as a means to find more subjects. I don't really consider myself a "UE Photographer" per se, I'm just a photographer who also UE's to find new material. Thanks a lot for the feedback!

| | | Fantastic, it's true often you find very mundane photography by "Point and Shooters" on this site. It's great to see someone else with an eye for it. [last edit 3/27/2006 3:58 PM by Gazoo - edited 1 times]

I love that last part. I've gotten similar feedback from people who have never been to these places and I think that's a really great compliment. They say that photography is about conveying the feeling that the photographer felt when he/she was there, so that's a really great thing to hear. Thanks! One thing is for sure, I definitely took my time. Mannnnny hours in the cold looking for shots. [last edit 3/28/2006 2:30 AM by desmet - edited 2 times]

Thanks a lot...it's nice to get positive feedback from people who *have* seen it all as well as those who haven't. I have spent MUCH time looking through the huge amount of great photos taken by people who frequent this site, and I'm glad that I was able to bring something new to the table. It's hard with places which have been photographed so much, but if I'm really doing my job then I should be seeing it differently than everyone else. ;) [last edit 3/28/2006 2:29 AM by desmet - edited 1 times]
