| | | Until just recently I have always gone alone, no one around me had interest in exploring and most thought I was nuts. It wasn't until I started going on exploring meets that I started with others. I am far more cautious when Im alone and usually at least text someone and let them no where I am and they will check in on me. Though make sure the phone is on vibrate only. Both alone and part of a group has their ups and downs.

| | | I almost always go alone. Unless there is a real risk of injury or getting lost. I also always tell someone I trust where I will be going, and what time I expect to be back. I always call them when I get off site so they know I am OK. If they don't get a call by a certain time, they try to call me. If I don't answer they start considering what to do next. Which is usually call the local pub... Seriously though, its a good practice. I like exploring alone because I take my time and enjoy what catches my eye, and I'm very very quiet. Also, on a side note, keep a blank check with you at all times. You can't post bail with a credit card in some places, but you can with a check. Lastly, if you fear the homeless or squaters, carry a fresh pack of smokes. Run like a scared rabbit, drop smokes. No self respecting homeless person will run past that, regardless of how nice your camera is...
If you have done things right people won't be sure if you have done anything at all. |

| | | I've done it and enjoy it, the only thing I notice when going alone is that it sucks crossing fences and climbing stuff when you don't have another person. This is mostly because of camera gear for me.

| | | I usually go with people but sometimes it's just fun to scout out things on your own. I'm doing one by myself tomorrow. If it pans out i'll bring someone with me to explore further. Before I leave for anything UE related I leave a note with my roommates, and give my dad a call to let him know where I'm going to be, When I expect to go in, and when I'm comming out (and just incase I have a run in with my local law enforcement agency) But for long exploration i'd want 3 people with me. It's easier to move an injured person with 2 people instead of one (depending on the injuries).

| | | I also go mostly alone, but I can usually get some friends to tag along with some of the bigger places, which is a good thing. I don't think I would ever go in a mine alone that I was unfamiliar with though. The risks are just not worth it.

| | | I did a few hours in Dixie Square alone, and go-figure that was the day I ran into dogs and my foot went through a wooden floor. I'll usually hit small abandonments alone (restaurants, etc.), but for the most part I go with a friend.

| | | I go alone most of the time. If i'm draining, i make sure somebody knows roughly where i am and how long ill be. For everything else ill have my phone and just take it easy and dont push myself too much. Going alone is very peaceful and it allows you to learn your limits without any distractions. I Find.

| | | I'm pretty much always on my own. I'm not against going with other folks but my schedule is pretty hectic so I only get to UE every once in awhile. Mine ends up being more random than anything else. Find something to get into when I have some time to kill.

Did you ever consider that there are people with enough experience and awareness to explore alone safely?

No matter how experienced and aware an exploring may be, there's still a risk of getting hurt. Not any different than walking along a sidewalk, but if you get hurt on a sidewalk there will probably be someone there to help you out.

True, most of the exploring I do alone is in active buildings so help wouldn't be far away if I did mess myself up.

I explore alone most of the time. I find that most of my best photos are taken when I'm by myself with my thoughts and no distractions. Don't get me wrong, a bunch of the places I've explored in NY State and Detroit I wouldn't have done alone but for the most part I roll solo.

this is what i was refering to... i did consider some are experienced enough, and prefer alone, and ive gone exploring a total of twice alone... i just find it better with at least one other person for the reason stated above by mmeany. and the person i bring, is always someone with the same interests and who wants to shoot, and likes photography...

| | | I usually explore alone. It's easier to do things on the fly that way. Trying to coordinate with others is too difficult for me. If a place gives me a bad vibe, I just stay out of it. Most of the time it is very peaceful and relaxing, though. I love spending a day off just hitting up about four abandoned places in a row and coming home to feast on the photos.

| | | I always do stuff alone. But im not a drainer so thats not really my question. I prefer to go alone because i dont have to worry about someone else getting spotted, stealing shit, being a general douche. Its easier to hide when you're alone and easier to explain what you were doing if you do get caught. But On the flip side, there is safety in numbers. In my opinion it depends on what your doing and the safety of the area. TL: DR Be smart.
