Mainly for two reasons.
1. Its a social thing - I enjoy the company when we go out and explore. It's better to have people around to chat and pass the time with.
2. Comfort/security - I tend to find that when I explore alone EVERYTHING takes me twice as long to do. I spend double the time checking I'm not about to get busted, there's no pir's etc than when I've got company. I'm ALWAYS on edge if I'm by myself.
Suppose it's due to the fact that if it fucks up its solely on my shoulders. So yeah I'd say there's a comfort level in having a second pair of eyes with you. Even if it is balls to the wall and the first time you're doing it. A second person can make the difference.
Also worth noting..... trust the people you explore with. You don't trust them, don't explore with them. Can't say that enough

I agree that exploring alone is much more meditative, and I honestly feel safer. I'm kind of terrified of bringing someone to one of these places and them getting hurt, arrested, or worse.
It's quieter too

This. As a mom of two small kids, the utter silence of an empty place is a balm for my battered brain. Of course, then every single creaking floorboard and shifting roof tile is amplified and scares the crap out of me.

The smaller the group the less chance there is of getting caught.
You should NEVER go with a partner, if they are caught by police then they will sell you out.
You are only as fast as your slowest member, unless you want to leave members of your group behind.
You are also a lot quieter when you are on your own as there is no one to talk to.
ESPECIALLY not in a building where you could get injured or die, your partner does not need to see that.
Also, NEVER tell anyone that you are going out exploring, you don't want people to find out about our hobby. They are ignorant and will just call the police.

This is true, when I am going someplace sheisty, I try to bring a friend. If I feel like it will be a pretty easy, unnoticeable, non-dangerous explore, I don't mind doing it alone.

I wouldn't take my friends into a subway or drains, I don't want to put them into dangerous situations. If anything happened at all I'd feel responsible. I'd be willing to go with any uer.ca pros, though, but I don't think anyone trusts me.

Scary as hell, but not too safe either, entire rooms had the floors rotted out, and it was 6 stories high.
