| | | If there was no security on the weekend, I think there will be now. The jacket said Toronto Security with the Toronto symbol on the jacket. As soon as we got there, my stupid friend beeped his alarm and right from there he started watching us out his trailer, then we noticed he was behind us so we walked around the hole place and when we got to the end, we starred at the ground for like 5 minutes while he was watching us. I also think they have motion detectors in place. He kept walking up to poles with a keycard and swipping it and the light would stop beeping. I dunno. I was there like 12 hours ago and thats how it was! [last edit 4/24/2009 2:36 PM by cereal83 - edited 1 times]

Those are usually to make sure security guys are doing their rounds and not sleeping in a van somewhere, nothing to do with motion detectors. If they don't swipe their cards regularly, the boss gets notified that the guard isn't doing his/her job. Security means that work is (finally) actually underway, I suppose. Guards usually appear once all the expensive equipment is moved in.

| | | I dunno about who was guarding it. That's just what it said on the back of the jacket unless I read it wrong.

| | | What on earth are you guys talking about? Is security a problem now? Before it was the holes. You can't have it both ways ;) [last edit 4/25/2009 3:20 AM by Air - edited 1 times]

Nope, but that is really interesting, the funny thing is that from the sounds of the article the most that will come of this find is a pathetic attempt at documenting the find and then trashing what remains.

Alright I understand what you are saying, there are a lot of people who really have no ethics when it comes to exploring abandoned buildings that just go there to trash the place or use as a place to get drunk etc. But there is also the other type of explorer who actually tries to make artistically meaningful images to create a strong body of work to document an abandonment. Those are usually the same people who don't go around breaking things and causing trouble meanwhile giving a bad name to urban exploration.

| | | I know, I was just making a bad joke. I was thinking about DVB and how many people have been through the place over the years and how little information or insight about the place has come out of it. Countless people have passed through the place and thousands of photos have been taken (currently 5,161 on Flickr), but nothing new ever seems to come to light. Even with all this "documentation" we still only ever receive the same recycled tidbits of information about its past use and its historical importance. I know that research isn't everyone's thing, but if you're going to throw stones at the archeologists and historians, you should probably make sure you're doing something more than simply taking "creative" pictures.

| | | Alright, at first I wasn't sure whether or not you were serious...lol I have read the article wrong I didn't realize that the area at truly been transformed into an archaeological dig, I with archaeologists actually working on site. I thought that it was the construction workers that were digging up the remains not trained professionals. I have lots of respect for archaeologists and what they do and realize that they are definitely in that profession because they love what they do. I didn't intend this to be an attack on them. Your right the Brickworks is one of the most overly photographed abandoned areas of the city but that doesn't mean that nothing new can be learned or that every photograph taken after a certain point in time is just an indirect copy of what someone else has already documented.
