Is the Don Valley Brickworks done for good now?

I understand evergreen has finally gotten around to "breaking ground" but according to this blogger on the Don river they aren't doing major construction until early 2009?

I've been procrastinating to return to the brickworks for what is likely years and I hope I haven't missed my last chance. I can't imagine they are doing very much construction in this winter weather; especially since evergreen hasn't raised all the required money.

Cheers

They were cleaning up asbestos when I was last there (November) and the most recent pictures I've seen showed the office in the centre of the large room being tarped off. Not sure if that was for cleaning asbestos or ripping it down. I've heard that the real work doesn't start until later in 2009 though.

I'm not near there, but around here at least, winter doesn't seem to stop commercial construction. Maybe there's still time though...

While that's true, it's still one of the better places in the area.

For shame, gear and all.

And to the original poster, what are you waiting for? If your in Toronto there is no excuse for not going to see place. Its not like hearn where you have dodge uber guards.

Man, it's the Brickworks. On a Saturday or Sunday there's you and a dozen other people with cameras, too. The place is full of holes. Just do it.

[15:00:33] <SeeThirty> cause you're not likely to be anywhere that other people haven't been who didn't have protection
[15:00:41] <SeeThirty> still better safe than lexi

Only one way in now since they boarded everything up. Basically think of the easiest way in and try it and I am sure it will work. If you think you need to be a ninja now to get in, you probably won't find the way in!

there was always more hype about the place, than there was actually there
still its worth checking out, it was never all that hard to get in
just watch though, when i was there in the summer i ran into a few construction workers inside, they didnt seem to care much, but just as a heads up

Leave it to a bunch of Canadians to downplay what is basically a classic location.

The location had the history, catwalks, lots of machinery left over and despite all the vandalism it was always enjoyable and photogenic. It was the first location for so many people too. At least it's not getting demolished or collapsing.
