| | | On the buffalo news front, the location we got chased out of at the last meet is being cleaned up to some degree. The semi trailer in the yard is gone and has been replaced with a dumpster. It appears that huge pile of foundry patterns is getting smaller. Such a shame to see all that craftsmanship go to waste. Someone could've made some cool artwork from all of those. I will be checking the dumpster to see if any of those glass printing plates make it that far without getting smashed. GV

| | | Pretty much all of that was still in there, some was scattered on the floor, but most was still intact. I'll let you know if i find anything good while dumpster diving. GV

| | | I've been inside the Richardson Building at BPC a couple of times, and would love to go back, but haven't had anyone to go with. A then-friend and I had zero trouble with security when we were there, despite circling the building inside the (strangely enough, unlocked and open) fenced area in broad daylight for probably close to half an hour before ever going in. We were inside for at least an hour, and I wish that I'd taken more photos, but the ones that I got turned out rather well. I'll post them in the photo section right after I'm done here. When I went back by myself the next month, I got more exterior shots, most of which didn't turn out well at all, and I didn't get any interior shots that time, both due to getting there so late. Again, I had zero trouble with security, though at least they would have been good company. The basement has a very 'Blair Witch' feel to it at night, and when my flashlight looked like it was about to flicker out (it didn't, thankfully), I got out as fast as I could. I'm surprised about the nonexistent security during those trips, considering my visibility. I haven't taken a look at the entranceway in about 4 1/2 years, so I have no clue as to whether or not they're still this lax, or if I was simply fortunate.

they're not and you were. and whatever entrance you used 4.5 years ago is very much gone now. Wouldn't try this now that renovations are underway; they've gone and installed these pesky alarms, and power is back on in portions of the complex. All the old entrances are sealed, and they built some very sturdy barriers between the wards - even if you found a way in, you wouldn't be able to get far without an acetylene torch. add this to a 24/7 police presence & a caretaker who enters the building daily, and it doesn't make for fun exploring. on the plus-side, though, they've begun stabilization on the sandstone wards & the admin - and they've patched the roof, so no further (serious) damage will occur. although the renovations mean no more exploring, it's a small price to pay for saving that amazing structure.

| | | I was wondering how many of those barriers were in the rest of the complex. I encountered one after being able to get inside one area. I felt like I was in a prison.

| | | We miss you too man! The best weekend for me (read: the ONLY weekend for me) to be able to make it would be the January 20/21 weekend. I'm off Friday in the morning and I'm not back until Wednesday afternoon, just like last time I was down. Following that, I'm not off again for another 3 weeks (I have every 3rd weekend off).
