As has been stated, trusted is not something you buy, in case there is some misunderstanding. It's pretty simple. Lord kahos for example has repeatedly stated that it's ok to steal from sites, and it's ok to smash something to get into a site if he feels it's ok.

Sorry, not going to trust someone with those morals.

It requires wisdom to understand wisdom: the music is nothing if the audience is deaf.

Kahos smashes things to get into sites? Not to take sides or anything, but how can he be trusted if he does whacked out things like that? You don't go to a location to break things and destroy the experience for everyone else.

Gawd, I can't believe people would abuse the site like that. It's degrading to both the site, and the real explorers.

Oh, and for the rest of the thread's posters:

Okay, granted, maybe the Kahos bandwagon was the wrong one to jump on. But, Jester, what do you consider when you trust someone? I would like to hear some mods here speak up.

I mean, are the people you trust just your friends, whether you have met them or not? Are they people you have actually met or explored with? What the heck is the criteria?

I am not trying to flame or incite with my comments, I am just trying to understand what is going and where this forum may be heading in the near future. If it is becoming an elitist collection of individuals who are here solely to bash those who are not 'trusted', then I have a feeling that the main contributing populance here are going to leave and never bother to come back.

Also, do you seriously expect to to garner more members (whether they be true explorers, LE, kids, or whatever is immaterial) with the current attitude that is prevalent here? You may find your community here just a collection of 'elitist' explorers that so many of you have spoken out against in the past.

I have gone through previous posts of numerous people and in the past I have noticed that there was quite a lot of arguing about other sites thinking they are better than the people here and so forth.

Is this the direction that UER is going?

David E, wait until phase 3 happens. Go out, meet some people, its not that bad. I'm level 2 and i've been here for almost 2 years, but I am confident i'll get level 3 because I know i'm trustworthy and others who have met and explored with me also know i'm trustworthy. 'Nuff said.

The fact Kahos, that you have vandalized places, is EXACTLY why the trusted system is put up. Its not elitism, I don't want you fucking up MY and other's locations. Grow up and MAKE yourself trusted again.

On the one hand, I love seeing you guys build on each others' paranoia and jump to all kinds of conclusions. On the other, I think to myself, "Well holy shit, the company you keep reflects on you as a person? WHO KNEW?" You might just have a good idea here!

Servo, that also sounds like the majority of the moderators, minus two, or three that i trust. We don't judge people by the company they keep, unlike certain others here.

To address the question briefly here, any trusted status I give out is based on all available info I have regarding the individual. I gave trusted status to 'Dukes for example, though I've never met him, barely spoken to him, and there have been plenty of things I've disagreed with him about. I gave him trusted because; he is definitely a real explorer out there and contributes to the site in several ways.

Kahos on the other hand, while he has donated, he has also shown that he will damage a site if it suits his needs, and will take things from sites if he feels like it. He admitted to doing so in an interview he did with a local newspaper. It's bad enough that he does the things, but to brag about it to the media ? Talk about casting a black cloud over every other explorer out there...

DJMalign said it very well...

I've explored with Magpie, Lord and Lady Kahos, Taco and White Trash, and I didn't see any theft or vandalism going on. I've explored with Magpie and WT a few times. If anything, they actually mentioned their disgust in the vandalism that had been done to the sites we visited (Lister Block, Lofts). And maybe I haven't followed the Kahos thing closely enough but I was under the impression that his major theft was one trophy out of a bunch at the Thistle Club while it was already in the middle of being demolished. I visited the Thistle Club after he did, when it was almost completely gone, and there were still trophies and other things laying around the place.

A note to the mods:

I have used a lot more discretion in handing out my suggestions for Level 3 access than I did in the "free for all" round.

With the system being anonymous I decided I could raise my standard without fear of retribution or catching grief from some folks.

I would like you to feel free to ask any questions you may have about the recommendations I have made.

There's nothing elitist about excluding people who vandalize sites any more than there is about excluding arsonists. They aren't UE'rs and this isn't the place for them.

If they want I feel sure they can go out and start their own vandalism forum.

It is when some of the level 3, "trusted" people, are in fact vandals or theives.

Looks like I've got a lot of stuff to back up here, I'll start with the Nazi remark. I think you misunderstood me Av, I used that remark to imply the fact that in the 1930's and 40's, most people stereotyped all Germans of being Nazis, for the sole fact that it was the company they keep. I think you thought I agreed with that fact, when actually I was trying to stress the point that people were wrong in that thinking, and there were actually a lot of Germans that spoke out against the Nazi party. Enough of this though.. it isn't the point.

I don't know who is telling you these rumours, but they obviously have never explored with me. I have NEVER meaningfully vandalised a site. I do not tag things, I do not use spray paint, I do not practice needless destruction. I explore because I'm curious. I used to rip off boards to gain entry to sites, but in the last couple of months I've also stopped doing this, because I am trying to become a more ethical explorer. If you're going to hold me for that, just know that even some of your "trusted" explorers have all done this at one time or another, regardless of what they say.

I do think it was wrong of Kahos to mention his "mementos" in that news paper article. If you're going to do that kind of thing, its best not to get the media involved. I was actually the one that was to take that interview and went out of my way to PM Ninjalicous for help on what to say, to make sure I represented us in an honourable manor... I was unable to make the meeting though, so Kahos took my place.

Av, it wasn't a long time ago that you met me. It was only 2 or 3 months ago, and I thought I made a pretty good impression. I tried to be civil and I thought I showcased what an ethical and trusted explorer would of done. Obviously, I did not please you. I've also attended one Toronto meet and have met with many of the "trusted" exploreres in Toronto. Once again, I made every attempt to make myself a civil and ethical explorer. In recent times I've strived very hard to better myself and rid myself of my shaky past. There are some people who just aren't willing to let go of the past, and find it quicker to just simply dismiss me as "once untrusted, always untrusted". Well, thats your opinion and I obviously can do nothing to change it.

I hope I answered any questions of myself, and possibly even changed some minds... but I doubt it. I suggest, if you'd like to know what I'm all about to come down to Hamilton some time, and see how I do things. See how I've changed, and see exactly who you are labelling as a thief and a vandal. I guarantee you will feel you were wrong. I hope I didn't ramble too much in this and start to contradict myself... sometimes I do that when I have a lot of things to get across.

Magpie, I don't dislike you. I thought you were a cool guy, if a little quiet. But this site isn't about what one person thinks of someone -- it's about the community.

Obviously, you will get a "real chance" when you request Level 3 access and a team of mods reviews your case, but for now, I've been shown a pretty grim picture of you.

All I can say is that I will try to reverse the "grim picture" of myself. I guess I'm done with this subject, until I can request level 3 status.

Oh, and for the record everyone:

I've gotten several reports from various members of the site, indicating to me that Thieving Magpie frequently vandalizes sites with his friend White Trash. Although I have met him, it was a long time ago and we didn't really explore. I've heard the same about Lord Kahos and Lady Kahos. And wouldn't you know it, these are the people who are complaining the most.

May i see these several reports and proof that I really did any damage towards any location I was in? I have never done anything that could in anyway be traced back to me from tagging to vandalizing I've always found it pointless and am certainly not going to do it just for the fucking fun of it. You don't know me fine I don't need a level 3 its just bullshit now anyways, but saying shit that you have no proof from just cause your fellow ass kissers don't like me or lord kahos. I also know being lord kahos girlfriend probably has labeled me because a lot of you don't like his view on some things. I can first say that i don't follow everything he does and believes in and two maybe you should get to know someone before you accuse them and people they associate with, with bull shit and rumours.

So all you who have level 3s bravo a lot (but not all) of you have kissed enough ass to get somewhere on this site thats all i have to say.

I think you'll find that you are doing exactly what you're accusing me of doing, Lady: Making stuff up.

Nobody has kissed any ass for Level 3. In fact, just to choose an example: Kowalski frequently disagrees with my ideas and opinions, and yet I still marked him as trusted.

Hey Av (and the mods)... I think the problem is that no one knows what the hell trusted status means. Trusted not to steal? Trusted not to be a cop looking to bust people? Trusted not to be a vandal? I mean, it's very subjective, and it hasn't been defined, which is causing a lot of paranoia.

I think it could mostly be solved if you guys just filled in the blank in one or both of these two statements, and then set it in stone:

You are trusted not to ______
You are trusted to ______

Don't get me wrong. I still say this system isn't going to work. But I think that would cut down on a lot of people feeling like it's a suck-up contest.

I hate to play mod, but this thread was solved by the second post and off-track by the fifth. Now it's gotten to the level of calling people vandals and demanding public evidence for something that perhaps shouldn't have been revealed publicly in the first place.

I'm all for letting this one go, unless it gets back on track in terms of how currently "untrusted" people can gain trusted status, but I think that's been addressed elsewhere. I'll dig up some links, if it will help.

P.S. -- WRabbit has a good point. A new thread on what criteria should be used to label someone as trusted might be helpful.
