Not a post of a picture, but a question.

On my way to work today, I seen an OPP cruiser with what looked like a pair of little black hockey sticks sticking out from the light bar on the roof. They appeared to be attached to the light bar horizontally, with the "blade" part of the hockey stick pointing down at a slight angle, almost looking like a second set of miniature side-veiw mirrors.

What are these things? I dont think they are some type of antenna. I'm thinking they might be some part of an automated license plate reader camera. I know in my home town they have a police van that cruises the streets with an automated camera that scans license plates and checks them in real time in their database, however the camera on the license-plate reader van looked nothing like what this OPP cruiser had.

Sorry, I would post a picture if I had one. I never seen a cop car with these miniature black "hockey sticks" before. I would have taken a picture, but I didnt have much of an opportunity, and I didnt want to get nailed with "hands-free" law they have now in Ontario.

What you described is exactly what is on a few of the Sheriff patrol cars in my area. And I saw them getting out and checking plates, just this past weekend..

You know that thing has gotta have a 427ci, with the good heads, HP exhaust manifolds, dual plane highrise, 4BBL, TH400 tranny. This thing would regularly hunt down '32 highboy roadsters and coupes. Probably caught it's fair shair of '49 and '50 Merc led sleds. maybe even some back road shine runners made the mistake of trying to out run Sheriff Billy Bob BUTTler.


For the time period, I'd say it's likely a 348 or 409 "W" block, with a 4bbl, with a Powerglide trans.

That thing would fly with that combo!

That's a very, very sweet ride.

I don't care for the design of the Charger though.

This is hotlinked off of a friends facebook because I have yet to get a picture of one myself. Birmingham Metro Police really use these! You don't see them every day though. I wonder what they were thinking when they decided to use some smart cars as Police cars (Budget crunch!?). And imagine being the cop who has to drive around in one.

Local cops in every municipality I've lived in have had smaller, stranger cars... Like new VW Beetles, some PT Cruisers, etc... They're usually media or community liaison officers.
