I did a demolition derby in an '86 K Car. It was really rotten, and in the first 10 seconds of the derby, a Corsica took a run at me from across the ring and turned my Aries into an Omni in one hit.

I build ten second derby cars.

I don't know that I've ever had a Chrysler that the tape deck worked in.

None of the buttons even worked on the trip computer or the radio on my Turbo Z.

But I still loved it.

Did the "12 button traveler" or whatever the hell they called it ever work? I think not.

I forget what it was called (the world "Traveler" was in there), but I never did see one that worked!

(The base model had an "Elapsed Time Chronometer"... which some may prefer to call a "clock")

So I love rat rods, and I've always thought that if you built one using just the body from a 50's Willys station wagon, and basically built a rat rod around the body treating it like it was a 20s or 30s Tudor, it would be AWESOME. Chopped, channeled, open engine, tires riding way on the outside of the body, 30's Ford grille shell situated just behind the front axle with old rusty tractor headlights mounted on the frame rails that stick well out past the front wheels...

...Then you have this monstrosity.

I love Rat Rods, I feel they get back to the roots of Hot Rodding, home modified on a shoestring budget.

This modern day rodding @ NASA budgeting is just to far out of my league.

That being said, that Willy's is just to backyard. Even for me........

this is why i sort of got away from cars, the ridiculous cost. If you don't drive a Honda or a VW, aftermarket parts are a bit on the pricey side, especially for a car that was only made for 5 or 6 years. On top of that, I was PM'ing Bandi a couple of weeks ago about building an amateur rally car. I had found the car, but when I started pricing the bits and pieces to make it somewhat competitive, the pricetag was ridiculous. When you're single and living in mom's basement, you can get away with this stuff, but when you have a house to fix up, money just kind of flies towards that direction.

ATV's are far more accessible to me

that's just it... i used to go to car shows, but they never had any idea where to 'class' my car. It wasn't a Tuner. It wasn't a Personalized Stock 1980+. It just didn't fit anywhere... when your car loses to a rusted out 81 AMC Eagle... it's time to just forget it all.

I went to a small 4x4 vehicle show with some SAR friends not too long ago and there was some amazing builds but when I asked most of the owners what trails they have taken the rigs out on and I would get "Oh, these are for show! not driving!"

I lost my pulse for a few seconds....

that's another thing that twists my titties... trailer queen cars. They get rolled off the trailer, pushed into place, winched back on to the trailer. They're never started, never driven, never enjoyed the way the car was built to be enjoyed.

Oh god, Trailer Queen Cars are the worst; I don't think they even put OIL in the pan in those cars!

I actually GRILLED an owner of one of this nice ZJ build; he said he wanted to demonstrate his workmanship more than how it handles on the trail; his day job was an automotive spray painter...

I'm often amazed what's hidden away on this island. Not super rare, but seems a damn good deal... Interesting the reason the guy bought it. Had a friend in high school whose brother wrote of his Dad's brand new X/19 on his first drive, then he bought a BMW. Probably kept the keys well hidden.

This classic had the Landau Top replaced by Capital Auto Glass and Upholstery($600), New BFG Radial T/A's and American Racing Wheels installed at Tires Unlimited($1200) as well as a brand new windshield installed before I took her off the road. It needs a new engine or at least a rebuild, the original 302c.i. 2 bbl engine made a knocking noise before finally succumbing to whatever was ailing her. Everything else is stock and this is the only model like this I have ever seen. My father bought her new at Suburban Motors after I wrapped his Pontiac Ventura around a tree(the road was wet and he had just put his studded snow tires on). Anybody up to the task?
