Why not pay 7 grand for a new car, with a warranty that will cost the same amount to operate and repair every single month for the life of the warranty (which being a Kia or Hyundai) I believe is pretty f'in long period of time? Then sell it for $2000 bucks when done! Not every College girl or old lady can do their own ball joints and tie rod ends!

Well Kia will find everyway to get out of that "warranty" Trust me, I know people who have owned one. Sell for $2000????? Around here 2yo Kias sell for less than a grand. lol, not exactly a good investment.

Well, the warranty has changed since Hyundai acquired Kia. It used to be a fair warranty with a generous 100,000 powertrain + body warranty. Then Hyundai reduced it down to their standard warranty which isn't as comprehensive.

Don't get me wrong, I think a used Kia is an awsome deal. But I would never take that kind of hit on a new car. Never.

Under a thousand bones for a car two years old? NO WAY Unless the odd one has been totally beat and fukt and not working. Two years would make it still within warranty period.

Find me a fleet of those fuckers, i'll import then for a few hundred bucks a peice to Canada and make a fortune.

Dude come to any auto auction around here. Some I have seen go thru is a 08 Rio with 75,000 miles. $950. Rio's bring nothing here. If you want some thing decent (Optima or so) look to spend $1500. If you want 04-07 with lower miles then all day long at $1000-$2500. Kias have no retained value. If you can buy it NEW for $7000 it will lose most if not all of that within 3 years. I don't buy new anymore. Its a waste. Is it decent back an forth transportation? Yeah. Is it worth anything? Not really. I have refused free ones lol. And not old beat down Sophies (sp) but 02-05 Rios. No one really wants these things down here (no one with auto knowledge) so they don't hold well on value.

as a return to the gist of this thread... Toyota is being forced to recall 3.8 - 4 million cars. I have had a woody for a day now... oh, i'm sure they'll spin it off somehow.

if this had been GM, Ford or Chrysler, there would be villagers wielding torches and pitchforks demanding heads and money.

The way they are spinning the recall is that they will replace the pedal with a smaller pedal.

If its human error then yeah, proper fix to compensate for stupidity. If its a mechanicle problem way to spin it as a human error problem.

So I've heard the Matrix is being pulled from production in the next few years. The joint venture between GM and Toyota is ending in NUMMI California. GM was the one pulling out to start for obvious reasons. The recall does not affect any Canadian made Toyotas I don't think. A little fact, any Toyota that you see on the roads in North America is made here. The same cannot be said about a Lexus. One of Toyota's theory's is to make a car where its sold to avoid shipping costs among other things.

to paraphrase the above...

one of toyotas' theories is to build a car in the southeast to avoid labor costs.

I don't blame any company for setting up shop in a Right To Work State. If memory serves, VW's plant is being built in Tennessee...same deal

At the very least it gives a chance for Americans to work doesn't it? At least they are built in America, by American people. Wage or not, those people have had jobs when other car manufacture were laying people off. In fact, Toyota has never laid anybody off despite taking a huge hit.

Nismo, I've been through the Ford Plant in Atlanta, GA and I can tell you that those people certainly read and write. They may drink awful beers, but that's a different story.

I learned that once the VW-Porshe merger completes, the new company will the largest automaker in the world instead of Toyota.
