True, but compared to other Kias? It's hot.

I'd likely buy a Forte Koup. I think they're a good value, and 174 HP in a car that small means it's no slouch.

And it kills me to say it, but Kia buids a decent little car for the price.

the Forte Koup (who comes up with these 'nifty' spellings????) looks like an amalgamation of three or four different cars... it's typical Korean; borrow from everything successful and throw it into one car and then undercut the price. It may look ok, but I'm sure its the same old Korean shitbox underneath that Hyundai and Kia have always been.

I've met very few Kia owners that have had a bad experience with their car. Former co-worker's mom bought a 2000 Rio 5, it now has 430,000 km in it, and Kyle has driven the living shit out of that car since day one. Total repairs have been 2 alternators, a starter, 2 sets of front wheel bearings, and a hood from hitting a deer. You fail to mention that a large percentage of GMs also have are also a Koren shitbox... and quite frankly, Kia and Hyundai beat the living shit out of any Daewoo product I've seen.

I've loved my Daewoo, oops, Pontiac Wave. anywhoo . . . I had to get the alignment done on it recently, and they gladly pay for a rental for my replacement, I had a choice at the rental. A Focus (ECCGH) or a Kia Spectra. Liked it quite a lot. Good on fuel, not too bad accel. ( I will sacrifice speed for economy SORRY ), and quite a nice ride. Not to mention the little things ( like the options ) made it a nice ride.

i fucking hate Daewoo too... the Lanos was the worst car I have ever driven. The fucking Aveo is a shitbox, a sort of fun shitbox, but a shitbox.

I'd recommend a Hyundai or a Kia any day to someone looking for a basic run about econo whatever (or a Genesis Coupe) They make a good car. plain and simple

I agree. Kia's flagship market is here in Portland where I have first hand experience with Kia. They make GREAT basic cars that are very good for their value. The Kia Sophia was sold for freaking $6995 and it sold like hot cakes until it was discontinued! Now, their high end models like their full size sedans and minivans are lacking; they design them like its still a basic model and I think for those prices you can get something better.

Yeah, I'd agree with you on that. Plus the northeast and New England in general have a large used car market in the same price range as most of the popular Kias go for. And Nismo, quite honestly your now putting words into Samarui's mouth. Be civil.

i've just known several people that have not had good experiences with Kias or their dealer networks. And the cars, shit these cars are cheap. You ever see Kias with 40,000 miles on them here, they're rusty and the CHECK ENGINE lights are always on... they just don't last in this area. Lower model Hyundais are guilt of this too... Accents and older Sonatas just fell apart on the other side of 50k here. and Nismo, you pompous douchebag, you want a car to weather Adirondack and Green Mountain winters, you buy a Cavalier or a goddamn Subaru! s

Well, their dealer network east of the Mississippi is Kia's weak point, but its because historically, Kia had huge sales in America in the west; they actually COULD suvive alone being a West Coast only brand I think, but that's a different story. If you watch a Kia ad, they always show the cars driving in the desert of Arizona or the Pacific NW. I've met the owner of the flagship Kia Dealer who in 1992, was the first dealer in America to sell the Kia Sophia, Bob Lamphire. I met him one day while getting a part for my Passport. The reason why he became the first dealer for Kia is because at the time in the 90s, all the manufacturers worldwide no longer made a car for under 10,000 MSRP, which disappointed him. He was happy to hear that a Kia Sophia could be sold at 6995 MSRP.

it's a case of you get what you pay for...

Any car I buy for $7000 I expect to have to throw away at 50,000 miles of use. That's the point where I start to question what's really wrong with it. Kias seem to hold up pretty well down here, but they suffer the same shitty dealer network that they have up north. There's only one reputable Kia dealer in my area, and they're an hour and a half away. The other 10 or so dealers are skeezy.

Lol. I can pay $700 for a car an get another 100k out of it. GM FTW on this. Sorry but if I pay $7000 for a car it better expect to be a life long commitment.

here's the thing... if you can only drop $7k on a car, why not buy a solid used car, something with a good track record? My last used car was a 98 Cavalier. I paid $3k for it and drove it for almost 4 years and put 60-70,000 miles on it. I think I put struts, ball joints, a wheel bearing, and a water pump in it during that time, which are not very expensive. i mean that's not always going to happen, but why not buy something cheap and easy to fix rather than some Korean shitbox?
| |
Why not pay 7 grand for a new car, with a warranty that will cost the same amount to operate and repair every single month for the life of the warranty (which being a Kia or Hyundai) I believe is pretty f'in long period of time? Then sell it for $2000 bucks when done! Not every College girl or old lady can do their own ball joints and tie rod ends!
