yeah, because how dare he do something different or give a gutless bus a little more power. Yeah. Yeah, that's ruined alright.

Oh... part two. The Cavalier Z24 didn't work out. I met the guy in Waverly PA. He brought the car. From the road, it looked great, was ready to have unicorns and rainbows follow me home. Luckily, my friend Will is far more practical and crawled under the car. Good thing. Rocker panels were very crispy and almost totally rotted. There were two mystery jams in the floorpan where the car bottomed out or was run over something, or lifted wrong. Behind the cladding on both doors was suspect and when I pushed on the drivers' side, it gave a little. I was completely disappointed, thanked the guy for his time and headed back for NY without a Z24. As they say in the movies... Next? Will I ever have a toy? Or am i cursed?

I agree with Sam. A bus that can exceed the speed limit would be interesting.

I'm all for big engines in vehicles they don't belong in, but I can think of better engines to swap into vehicles than a 2.8 liter, and I could also think of some vehicles are aren't quite as valuable when restored. Like a 70's Bus or a Vanagon. Quality of workmanship looks good, though. Just seems like a lot of work for a V6 that wasn't exactly known for being amazing... with that much work, installed in a vehicle that has the potential to be worth a shit-ton of money, why not at least go with some fire breathing V8?

Because using "Volkswagen" and "fire-breathing" in the same sentence would just be wrong.
Oh good, my slow clap processor made it into this thing. | |

the 2.8L actually isn't that bad of an engine if you understand it, know what to look for and order the correct go-fast parts. I have had great luck with the MPFI 60degree V. the SFI engine, well, that was a boat anchor.

any one who puts that crap into a split bus window needs to be shot, they have VW transporters for that kind of nonsense. this is like putting a turbo F20C in a classic muscle car.

Yeah. That's why they're dominating the WRC.

...meanwhile, Toyota Camrys and Chevrolet SSs are dominating NASCAR. Doesn't matter all that much when the race car only bears a slight resemblance to the production car, does it?

The VW group includes Lamborghini, Porsche, Audi, Bugatti, Bentley... all of which make some pretty fucking impressive production vehicles. Think before you hate.

I have to admit, my friend's Fiero which has a cammed 2.8, some ancient aftermarket PROM in the ECM, a mild port and polish plus some exhaust work is fucking quick, and it's been reliable forever. Sounds good, too.

...and out of all those great brands, you chose to be obsessed with VW?

Theyre fun unique cars with a vast aftermarket, a ton of OEM plus and rare euro goodies, easy to work on, and easy to modify. And the sweet sound of any VR6 is orgasmic. Not to mention just overall more sturdy interior, and the cars age well.

VW is the people's car! its the GM of Germany! Parts are easy to get and the huge aftermarket community! If I were to go into German cars, it would be either VW or BMW...

oh yeah they're fun and unique... when they catch fire, when the check engine light goes from code to code to code just to be capricious, they are NOT easy to work on and as for modifying, it's too bad so many VW 'enthusiasts' have such questionable tastes. they're like every other fucking machine built by man- a fucking wonderful thing when it works and evil cunt bitch whore asshole when it doesn't. Anything in between is parked between wishful thinking and fantasy. it's all junk. all of it. muscle cars, model t's, exotics... it's all bullshit we surround ourselves with to make ourselves feel wonderful about our lives and then we drop trousers at the drop of a comment to defend them. Fuck it. Fuck it all.

I never understood why VW has a history of electrical issues...they have freaking Bosch handling most of it, not Lucas!
