Too bad it has to haul around 10,000LB's.

Holy fuck, I know Americans generally have a high average weight but there's no way you weigh that much matey, surely!?

Chris...

We all had ostriches. My dad had an ostrich farm! I remember one day someone came in and said the high altitude bombing of Kosovo had been a limited success, so we all went out and celebrated… by killing an ostrich and boiling it in kiwi fruit.

Mate, I feel your pain. I'm often asked why I have a factory fitted child seat beside me when I have no kids under three; I weep with mixed misery/joy when I have to tell people it's to cradle my enormous knob in.

Hey I've got a dodge too 1990 ramcharger with the 318 its my winter beater.

Oh that's a beast! I like to call those "a trusty dodge".

The Durango is nothin special really it's a 2000 with the five nine. Haven't even done much with it except throw on a flowmaster just to make that V8 sound a little beefier and i changed the headlights to aftermarkets because the stock lights on the older durango's are utter shite.

I hate having to pay for a second seat when traveling by air......

I was exhausted from hauling around my large load, so I parked the penis and I in front of this beat up old Ford.

Doing some slightly more legit exploring...Went out to St. Louis to see my brother this past weekend, here's my rental car on the bank of the Mississippi river underneath the Gateway Arch.

(It's a weird area to park in - couldn't really get an angle on the car with the arch in the background)

I had a Durango with the 5.9... got VERY tired of 13 mpg highway. VERY tired.

Also had a brake rotor separate from it's hat while stopping behind a school bus, causing the caliper pistons to pop out, thus having no brakes at all, and the transy went about a month after that... also had a really bad rust problem.

BUT... the interior was nice and I liked the factory Infinity stereo. And it looked nice before it rusted all to hell.

It's weird, my friend has the IDENTICAL truck, and it's been awesome.

No split hydraulic system on that? Bit of a design fail there!

The Durango was an interesting SUV; I personally see it as another "Look! We can extend an truck platform too" SUV (based loosely on the Dakota)

Also forgot to mention the prototype for the Durango was originally the "B" plan for the Grand Cherokee back in 1992. It would of had the AMC 242 though. Now kind of ironic is that the new 2011 Durango will share the new WK2 Jeep Grand Cherokee Platform.

based 'loosely'? um, no... it WAS a Dakota underneath, Ahab... after swapping parts between the two, they should've called it the Dakota Wagon.

Hey Bandi, did your brake disk look like this:

??

If so, seems that you and about 10,000 other people had the same problem. A 'heavy duty' braking system with non solid disks (rotors) which look custom built to tear apart and a split hydraulic system that doesn't work? Awesome job Dodge!!

Chris...

It was but my back brakes were so far out of adjustment (thanks, auto adjuster!), nothing happened. I just ditched it into a snow bank and gouged up the front valance a bit.

I'm disappointed. You failed to mention it used Caravan taillights.

Aside from taking it up north it sees mostly highways usually so let's bump that up to oh what 17 mpg then?

But honestly aside from a few bad rust spots on the front bumper and rear hatch it's been a great truck in the almost 2 years since i bought it. I guess me and your friend got lucky.

17 mpg? i'm sorry man.

i get around 38 on the highway (sometimes more) and around 27-30 in the city (depending on if i'm driving in a spirited manner or not).

so what we've learned today is that if you want to save $ on gas, don't buy a Prius.

buy a 25 year old BMW.

Yeah it's a pig on gas, but let's remember that this is a 5.9L engine so your going to burn fuel.

Thankfully it isn't my everyday drive and more of a "fun vehicle" i guess you could call it. It's awesome in mud and snow.

it's not just the fact it's a 360 V8; it was also the gearing that was used, shift program, fuel injection programming/profile, the overall weight of the SUV and the aerodynamics... the vehicle was designed to get off the line quick (ie city traffic), haul through traffic with minimal shifting, pull the occasional boat/trailer and have all the amenities while still maintaining some off-road capabilities.

the thinking was that if you're buying a vehicle like this, fuel economy is not really a consideration therefore, fuck it.
