Won't be hard to find me there, just look for a backpack that says "Urban Explorer" along the straps, hehe. I get lots of weird looks that way, it amuses me.

Krenta - as for it being a cop convention at the same time... well, unless there are a lot more 5-0 on these boards than I've heard about, it shouldn't be difficult to figure out who's who, and who isn't supposed to be there.

I mean, if we're all hanging out and see some random guy just wandering around, talking to people, and after talking to him he says something like 'Oh, I came with so-and-so'... and then later you talk to so-and-so, and they deny having brought anyone at all... Yeah, that would be a pretty thorough tip-off.

That and, well, most of the people going probably have some sort of familiarity with some others who have expressed interest - at least knowing their screen names and such (a lot like Perkins).

And unless the cop is a true UrbEx-er, he won't be 1337 3nuff 2 h4n6 w17h 4ll u5 k3wl p33pz0r5.

Sorry, DT; occasionally I make the assumption that everyone else recognizes sarcastic humour when they see it, thereby making any sort of ;) or characters unnecessary.

My bad.

...and also the largest meeting of plain-clothes police officers since last years' IACP convention.

I don't know what an IACP convention is (a search turned up a bunch of possible solutions to that acronym)

but, there are other conferences, example HOPE conference, and defcon, that manage to run quite successfully with all kinds of law enforcement monitoring it.

now this could be because their group is much larger, but the point is that if cops attend, it doesn't necessarily mean trouble

(ps. this is on topic right?)

Well I think I can now say for sure that I will be staying at a hostel in Toronto!

I can get there for 99.90$CND(roundtrip) with my student card on Greyhound.
and like 20$ a night in a hostel.

Ehh... I dunno if any of you have gone backpacking, but for luxury and cleanliness, most of the backpacking hostels are nasty. Single showers for a full floor of 25 rooms, crappy service...

Perhaps things in Canada are a bit different, but this has been my experience with them.

I still think we should all camp or whatnot, and then usurp the hotel rooms of some of the people for gear storage.

it was kind of dirty but the people were awsome

the shower thing was the only problem...everything else was fine.

DAMN YOU ACCELLERATED EDUCATION!!!

maybe in the future... then I won't have to make "I'm with n00b" shirts for the people I end up hanging out with.

Well since we just got invited, we're trying to see if we can't cram it into what's going on with us. Granted not much is, it's trying to fit another big trip in moneywise. As we've already got a major (18 days) trip which happens every Augest and sucks up most of our extra money, but those are helluva 18 days. The airfair is cheap, you can pack camping supplies as luggage so it might be possible. We'll know when it gets a bit closers, maybe by the end of Feb.

Yes, I'm a bitch but we all knew that.

Hey Ninj, I just had a thought about the camping at Glen Rouge... Do they have group rates? Should we maybe warn them of the possibility of a large group decending on them and maybe see about the possibility of getting a block of sites together? We'd probably have to have a better idea of how many were coming and what kind of sites would be required before inquiring, but the invites should help with that...

Well since everything is trying to be squeezed into three days, perhaps you should split the sites into sections. Have a designated leader for each section and people can stay in the area they want to explore. For example, one group stays at a hostle, and explores oh I don't know...the subway, another group does drains in the area and another group does abandoned sites. split it up into three catagories and may split all the guests into three groups. Each day the groups rotate and that way we can cover the most ground. This also allows people to skip anything hey don't particularly want to see. (Sorry if this is a repeat of anything previously said, I don' have time to read all 15 pages of this topic!) One more thing before I shut up, what about us high school students! we are still in school that time during June. I will be 19 by then so I guess it doesn't matter too much, but just in case there are others like me.

Ninj: did you do a mass-mail to all members of this board, or did you pick out certain people to mail?

Like Just Oni Said, High school students get out after that date. I have finals and all that crap to worry about. I probably won't be able to make it this year, but I am 95% sure that I will be able to go next year.

Lazarus: I don't think I'm going to be able to coordinate any group rates, unfortunately, but I'm not going to stop other people from trying.

Stealthy: I tried to mail everyone who expressed interest, or who I wish had expressed interest. I consider every explorer welcome, of course, but unfortunately not everyone who reads these boards is an explorer, so I don't want to post the invitation publicly.

What's the story on the campgrounds? Are a lot of people staying there? I'd stay there if I can sleep in my car, but it looks like that's for the serviced or unserviced sites only (more expensive, but still a little cheaper than a hostel).

I have a gas-guzzling SUV where the seats lay down; I can juuuust squeeze in longways. If I do drive I can probably provide a little bit of space for people to store their gear (I saw that was a problem mentioned earlier). Who needs an RV, huh?

If I go I'll probobly try and find a campground, I don't want to try and sleep in my car so I'll probobly just sleep in a tent.
