Allright, well paint me red and call me a fool! (please don't actually do this, at least not the paintin part.) It has been brought to my attention that Bawls is in fact now sold in Canada! Go to their website and you can get a complete listing of stores throughout Canada which carry them. I plan to go out and buy a few tomorrow. Thank you Bawls! -The Lost Flock

I have stayed at the Toronto Youth Hostel and found it to be both cheap, and good value. Although I admit that on the first night there the room I was in had fleas or mosquitos in it! The next room was much better. It was centrally located, easy to get to and easy to book a room in. Having read some of the earlier posts about the Days Inn and so on, well I'm a bit concerned because for some piss ass poor people like me who come from third world countries like Australia where our Dollar is worth a pittance I'll be on a tight budget. But at the same time I'll want the security of a place where you can lock up your stuff so camping out does not cut it. So I can reccomend the youth hostel as a good alternative. 2 minutes walk from the underground, there are some nice and affordable restaraunts there from McChucks to some donner kebab joints and so on. Plus there's a mini supermarket just down the road. Prices go from about $16-$19 per night (projected cost for 2004) But I'm sure you could get a better deal for groups. Oh, and they also have Internet access. I was wondering if a sort of 'UE guide to the city of Toronto' could be compiled, not of just UE sites, but of cheap and cheerful places to eat, things to do etc. Like for example, whenever I go to Sydney I drop in to a Turkish take away on Glebe Point road because the food is really cheap, very nice and the staff are great. I'm sure that Toronto people must have similar places that are cheap, nice and easy to get to on public transport. I suppose instructions on how to get from the airport to downtown would be good too. I caught a bus to a train station and traveled downtown from there. It was cheap, easy and safe. Also, I was planning to bring some tapes of my 2002 round the world trip, do you guys use PAL or NTSC? Hoping to see you all in 2004, Panic!

JOLT rocks! We use to down that shit when they sold it in highschool waaaayyyy back... then they stopped because everyone was getting too messed. Unfortunately nowadays, jolt just isn't the same, I have to drink Monster or something of the like (Monster is an energy drink as well, with guarana, ginsing and two others). Caffiene just doesn't affect me in the same way anymore, I guess I drink too much coffee.
Why is marijuana not legal? Why is marijuana not legal? Its a natural plant that grows in the dirt. You know what's not natural, 80 year old dudes with hardons. Thats not natural, but we got pills for that. We're dedicating all our resources to keeping the old guys erect but we're puttin people in jail for smoking something that grows in the dirt.
Well, along the lines of good, cheap food, I do know of One place. On the danforth, just a few stores east of the intersection with broadview is an awesome chinese food place called The South Sea, huge plates of food for 5 dollars and a buck a pop, tax included. Not bad at all in my opinion. -The Lost Flock

Panic: Good idea about the guide to visiting Toronto. I'll try to include some notes about getting around and eating on the cheap when it comes time to send out details. There are lots of extremely cheap restaurants in Toronto. Ninj http://www.infiltration.org

On the subject of Chinese food, there's also the cheap-ass Chinese buffet called "Abacus" on the lower level of the Eatons Center on the Dundas end, near the subway entrance. The food's not bad, and the price can't be beat. There are also some wonderful Dim Sum places in China Town (on the west side of Spadina, south of College). C.

I have to agree with Max - Jolt is and always has been the bomb... Remember the original ad campaign? All the sugar and twice the caffeine! Woo hoo! Unfortunatly not a beverage mentionted can hold a light to the Starbucks Venti Mocha Frappucinno...

Wow Mochi, I never knew that when you were talking about Bawls it was a drink from Guarana. I drank Guarana when I was in Portugal, and it rules, so I'll have to taste your Bawls...

There's this town near where I live called Severance - their is a "world famous" bar there called Bruce's that sells Rocky Mountain Oysters... FYI: Rocky Mountain Oysters are fried bull testicles. Maybe I should stop by there and see if they want to buy some bawls to go with their balls...

just to bring this thread back to its original purpose, can we get an update on some of the planning for the expo? even if its just in point form? also, if we're going to be UEing, has anyone thought of ways to minimize the risk of having 15-20 people wandering around UE sites just asking to get caught? i was thinking maybe rounding up toronto or area explorers who know toronto's fun sites, and can act as tour guides for smaller groups. if you don't have enough people in toronto, you can always invite people like us to come down, see the sites and then we can act as tour guides when the foreigners show up. ;) anyways, just a suggestion. and if there was a group that was up for it, i'd even suggest a few choice locations outside of toronto that might be worth seeing, like whitby. (heh heh, then we really would have to wait in line.) yeah you all get the point.
"So is it just me, or does the current situation in the United States seem like a bad 'B' movie?"
The tour guides thing is probably going to be done. some (minor) info and resources: http://uem.minimanga.com/offprod.html
