When I mean printing up shirts, stickers, and name tags, I mean mass printing them as freebies/cheapies at the actual con itself. I really want the name of the con on the products and I want to make sure the name isn't going to hcange after they're printed or something insane like that...

AND THEY LOOK SO DAMNED COOL!!! WAHHH!!!

Hmm, airplaneticket from Stockholm to Toronto= 600$. Hmm, would you Toronto people recommend hotel or camping? And is it *expensive* to buy food and such in Toronto?

Yeah I was also thinking that it would be nice to visit Toronto (never been in North-America) but the cost...

Or perhaps if I hitch-hike through Russia to Bering sea and then cross the sea, to continue in Alaska

I should probably start heading for the highway now

Well, there are plans out to build a bridge across the Bering Strait... whether or not its actually gonna happen is anyone's guess, but that'd certainly make hitchhiking across there a touch easier.

we've got to save pretty much the same for travel expenses from vancouver as people from overseas... it's 10 months away, and it's going to be our vacation. Most vacations will cost more than this trip...

Camping at a UE con... what irony.

I probably won't go, but who knows. I'm planning on spending my next few summers in Portugal, but if I can make it I'll sure be glad to. Toronto is a surprise to me, but it sounds like an awesome town. Even if I don't make it to '94, I sure hope to go there one day.

Oh yeah, I'll probably live near there someday... great thinking, Chudsy -_-

For all you non-North-Americans concerned about enormous airfares, you may wish to investigate flying as a courier. Sometimes you can save up to 70% or more. I'll have more info soon if it turns out to be viable.

It's not like we don't have 10 months to save a couple hundred bucks.

You're blessed that you're where you are... for Pixie and I to get there, just transportation is going to be aprox $500 if we bus it, $1000 if we drive or fly, and the real kicker... Economy class on a train $2800

But we will be there, no doubt

I really don't care too much where we stay, I do like camping though, but only if it was convenient enough of a location. Anyone from Toronto have any campsite info to help out here ?

You can get tickets for $400 or less round-trip flights Jester.... I've flown to BC for that much before... probably your cheapest route. I checked out all of the above (planes, buses, and trains) and flying is the cheapest, trust me on this one heh, and the fastest, train's take a few days as do buses but the flight is only like 8 hours or something like that.

For those of you in Texas, I checked out prices @ www.cheaptickets.com and all tickets range from $400-$450, but mose are in the $415 area. That is for going out of and returning to San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, and Amarillo. So it really doesn't matter where you fly out of. Course those are subject to change, and if there is another SARS case in Toronto, that change should be for the better.

K-os... actually Greyhound is the cheapest. As long as you book your tickets 14 days in advance, it's $214 (though they said there will be increases before next June, I wouldn't expect it to be more than $250) per person roundtrip. And since Pixie and I will be going together the whole way, we can buy one regular fare, and a companion fare for $30 more for her. Total $280 max. A good reason to have a fellow explorer come to the expo with you...

Westjet, one of the lower priced economy fliers, does Van - Tor return for aprox $500 per person.

Let's hope for another SARS outbreak then!

As for accomodations.. I'm not sure of all the policies, but back in the day when I was with a volunteer group in the Falls, we looked at getting a group rate at a Days Inn in Toronto - they said if we can get 25 or more, they would give us..I think it was 20% off. So maybe we could try something like that?

If not, I'm sure there's enough UE'ers in Toronto that can play host to a few people - I know I could hold like 5 or 6 on a "crush load"

Posted by tunnelratJetsGo or shit like that

No one has ever described JetsGo better.

Unfortunately the airlines all have this scam running where they advertise a very low fair, and then add an insurance and fuel sircharge (bullshit) and then a bunch of taxes.

So the actual fair is something much more expensive, the numbers they advertise are meaningless.

Everyone does this, and because they are all pigs at the slop bucket no one is going to call anyone else on the carpet for it.

All said and done, JetsGo YVR-YYZ is $600 return, and on top of that JetsGo makes you pay for everything including water.

Awesome. Being from Buffalo area it is going to be a short drive. Is there going to be speakers and demonstrations; or just mingling between groups? As for the legal issues I don’t think the Canadian police are going to be too concerned with us if they find out (unlike in Amerika). I still wouldn’t have any formal tours of places linked to the event, but maybe just informal UE between groups that meet. I think there should just be a few formal discussions and speakers on experiences and then just have the groups mingle with each other and kind of link up and do some out of expo UE. Maybe also have an open forum for UE’ers to tell stories and show pictures. Projectors and computer overheads are a must. Toronto isn’t that pricey and a very nice city. Just give date and time. Sounds Top Gear.

the dates are listed at the start of the thread...

I do believe we will end up with a few speakers on various subjects. I'm hoping there are enough local guides to take out of towners on some "tours" of some places.

Something else that could be pretty nice:
If the locals of Toronto know of some places that they haven't hit yet, or some that they've been meaning to hit but just haven't gotten around to it, or could find some virgin sites... Have sign-ups the first couple days of the con (the informal part) while the mix-an-mingle UE is going on, and then Fri nyte/Sat/Sun we can get the listed places hit all at once, then come back to the central locale and swap stories an such. Would add a bit more of a personal touch than just getting tours of places already visited if you could bond with other UE-ers by claiming the virginity of a site together ^_^

I don't think there is going to be any weirdness coming across the border. Just say you're coming to visit friends. Canadian border officials aren't that uptight.

Jester: I only know of one big camground inside Toronto itself, but it's a nice one. You can find details about it at http://www.city.toronto.on.ca/parks/recreation_facilities/camping/camp_index.htm .

Tunnelrat: As Av mentioned, the date is already set and announced. This convention and Doors Open will be two seperate things to look forward to.

Mochi: Although Office Products Expo 1994 was the favourite name, most people mentioned that they were *also* fond of the name Urbexcon. I'm sure if you made t-shirts and stickers using that name that people would be happy to buy them or receive them as gifts.

It's nice of people to publicly express an interest in helping -- if interested parties could also send me an e-mail (silver envelope icon), that would make it much easier for me to keep track of who wants to help.
