I am sure that this will all be thought of by Ninj and the other people setting up the conference. If we all have a "meet and greet" on the first day or whatever it will probably be held in a specific location so it should not be a problem finding everyone

...or some other smaller accessory. In fact, what about giving something like that to all of those who arrive? There may be so many people that we may not be able to pick up fellow UE'ers over the weekend. If we all wore identifying marks of somehow (something not too flashy, of course) it could be helpful.

That's precisely what I suggested. Damn, I've gotta stop being too wordy for people to bother reading my posts.

What if someone came up with a template that could be downloaded to create name badges that we could insert our username into? I don't know how we would affix the name badge to our body, but at least we would be able to identify each other.

Nametag stickers ("Hello my name is ____") are cheap, I've got a whole box of them from a previous job. Someone could design a nametag that could be downloaded and printed off onto adhesive laserjet labels, that way you could make a whole sheet of them and replace your nametag as the old ones wear out.

I actually have a shirt that says "Urban Explorer" on it, which I bought from Mr. Sable of UEA, so I shouldnt be too hard to find.

Well, we shouldn't worry about this too much or spend too much time devising complex systems. As Punkboy_Jerm suggested, there'll be a meet and greet for everyone at an obvious spot on the first night, and I'd be really surprised if anyone who came late couldn't pick out the appropriate clump of skulkers fiddling with flashlights and radios. Explorers are unusually observant, right?

I suspect there will also be a few phone numbers and such distributed to conference participants closer to June to help stragglers orient themselves, and some sort of common meeting place that will exist throughout the weekend.

But really people, it's the beginning of January. Everyone knows these things don't really get organized until the month immediately preceding them.

Heh yeah, it's ridiculously easy to spot a group of UEers, just follow all the previously given advice and everyone will be all set. However, keeping all these names in order will surely be difficult!

Yeah, keeping the names straight will be hard. I think in terms of screen names now...

Me and my friend Ian talking

Me: well, D-low from UER says blah blah blah

Ian: You have a friend named D-low?

^_^

Everyone thinks that way, don't feel bad. I mean, even the guys that I was arrested with... I've gotta focus to remember what their real names are.

Sadly enough, when a bunch of us get together to play HALO and whatnot, we use our screen names more often than real ones.

"Hey DarkTreader, 2 are headed your way. Pop 'em an take up the pipe snipe"
"No prob Ack. Hey Kiwi, shotgun pit's open, an 2 are spawning in - they'll be comin your way in a sec'

And things of that nature...

Haha, when I was in the Twin Cities, my friend Hippie High was surprised that we hardly ever used our "real" names, only our handles, so we were calling each other "D-Low", "Max Action", and "Krenta" all weekend. Kinda weirded him out just a little bit.

I think I could look anyone here in the face and call them by their screen handle with no problem and straight face.

Except for maybe a few like "Tickle me time-bomb".

Bah, if Max shows up, it will be because of an act by an insane and unholy god that he shows up. Though he could definately spice up a convention.

Early June, huh? Bummer. Still in high school, and that's exams. Ugh. Eh, something probably would have stopped me either way. Everytime I actually plan something, it floods. I got stories...

<reuben> somebody keeps jiggling the doorknob on my front door, then running away
<reuben> i don't know if i should call the police, or hook up some electricity to the doorknob
<cristobal> why don't you put ice on the stairs <cristobal> and heat up the door knob <cristobal> and swing paint buckets down from your two story foyer <cristobal> then a few years later, fade from the public eye.....

Yes I found some work so I can find a way to go!
We have some weekend groups coming up so I think I can get the money for it by the time it comes around!

I will most likly have to fly if I can find some one that wants to let me join in driving up there.
But I will try my best to find a way.
Hope to see you all!

Office Products Expo 1994 is the name Chud came up with for the convention of urban explorers that will be meeting June 3-6 in Toronto. It will include most of the serious explorers from the U.S. and Canada, as well as a few non-North American explorers potentially.

I believe it's going to be the largest meeting of explorers from different countries ever.

Nifty. I just never read this thread yet, because "office products" didn't sound like anything to do with UE. Why the hell is it called that, if i may ask....
