My company cars all have US GOVERNMENT tags... Kinda hard to make off with them that way! Samurai

I'll be heading up from Connecticut. I don't have much room in my car, but could fit one other person. I love camping and would much rather do that than a hotel. I think it would be great for all us CT, MA NY, NJ, PA people to meet up somewhere and convoy up. PM me if looking for a ride from CT area, or from the general area and want to meet along the way. I've just realised something. If almost everyone blacks out their faces in their pictures, how the hell will we find anyone at the "con"? Will we just go up to random people and ask if they're there for the Expo?
|
|
Damien: Yeah, I think that's the best plan. Personally I can usually pick explorers out of a crowd, just by something in their bearing. Identifying a group of explorers as such doesn't sound hard. If it is, just look for the people who look like they're big on office products. Ninj http://www.infiltration.org

That's a real nice PC way of saying that explorers look like nerds. At the first Toronto MochiMeet, my wife and I were walking through BCE Place looking for everyone. I saw this group of outcasts standing by the fountain and said "There's a bunch of losers, that must be them." I fit right in. Keep an eye out for people in dark trenchcoats, backpacks, and digital cameras. If you're looking for Ontario explorers, keep an eye out for the reflective tape. C.

I know I'll have on my custom-bult double-stapler baseball cap. I wear this thing frequently enough that the added weight has significantly increased the muscle mass of my neck, forever putting the lie to the usual combination of the terms "pencil-neck" and "geek." Also look for my four-colour vest made only of BIC Round Stic pens. You really can't miss me, and I trust it will be the same for most conference attendees. In fact, your pessimism regarding your ability to locate fellow office products enthusiasts makes me doubt your interest and commitment to this wondrous and rewarding field of activity.

My big thought about the whole con is what locations will be used for seminars? Any ideas or plans on this? r0sie

r0sie: I know lots of nice meeting rooms that can be used free of charge, but I would rather refrain from discussing them publicly, lest this result in their becoming unavailable. Everyone who registers to a specific event will get detailed directions to that event. Ninj http://www.infiltration.org

That's not very nice. I would like to think that I don't look like a nerd or a loser. And Ninj, how will we be registering? I realize it may say somewhere in this post about how to do so, however the legnth of this post is out of control and I really can't imagine re-reading the last 30,000 pages of this post to find out. I did read it at one time and I can't remember at this point.

Well, then obviously you're not a real UE'er. Oh, I'm just having some fun, Bizz. I don't mean to actually offend anyone - except those losers from the first MochiMeet. You know who you are. As for registration, a registration webpage will be made available eventually and you can register to attend through an online form. C.

I think I look pretty normal. most of you(apart from UEM) will probably walk right by me I think we should all take long but thin pieces of cardboard, paint it black, make eyesholes and tape it over our eyes.

Well, nobody will be able to see me because of my camo... but if they see me I'll be even more of a geek because of the camo... or some such thing. Maybe I'll just disguise myself with reflective tape so I'll blend in... ;)

Krazy and I and a bunch of others will be wearing black cardboard bars across our eyes, Av and Crossfire will have masks that looks like pixelated faces, Mochi will have a >_< expression, Ninj will be the one in suit and tie who looks like he owns the place, and you won't see Jester at all because he'll be hiding in the shadows wearing full camo. Edit: Damnit! Punkboy and Jester BOTH beat me to it! I need to type faster

Excellent idea. Then we should be able to tell who everyone is from the "Self Portraits" Thread.

I dealing with the "how will we know what people look like" thing, two possibilities jump into mind. Once registered, the order you register in could give you a person before you name. You contact the person, they send you a pic, and you find them when you get there. They find somone else, that person has another person to find, that person has yet another to find and so on. This way it's not a HUGE task for whoever heads up this registering buisness. My other (more simplistic idea) Is that reps from toronto and the area all wear some kind of Infing pin, like the inf.org symbol. I know we've talked about pins before, and.. finally, we'd have a use for them. Of course, there is no sense in mailing pins across the globe, so if they're made, and you want one or whatever, when you join the group of reps, you get your own pin, thus expanding the net of "found" people. Functional AND you get a keepsake. What do you guys think?
It's a drag, it's a bore, it's really such a pitty To be lookin' at the board, not lookin' at the city. |
|
the pins could be a good idea. You could allso have everyone wear the same color it looks really funny but it could work. Or just pick a place to meet that dosent have allot of people there usualy. Whoever said you can usualy pick out explorers is right, and the ones we cant pick out will probaly notice the group of people forming and ceom over.

Maybe not the same coloured shirt, but perhaps a bandana, hat, or some other smaller accessory. In fact, what about giving something like that to all of those who arrive? There may be so many people that we may not be able to pick up fellow UE'ers over the weekend. If we all wore identifying marks of somehow (something not too flashy, of course) it could be helpful. I'll just look for the large group of socially-awkward, nerdy looking, predominantly white male, age 18-35 mostly, people at where ever it is we're meeting at.
I'll probably meet some of you on the way. You'll all know me when you see me, trust me.
