D-low: The plans are pretty vague at the moment, but they'll be firmed up well in advance of the convention. I'll probably send out an e-mail to everyone with a proper invitation and a rough schedule of events once most of the events are scheduled. Lord Nat: There will probably be talks (though I hope they'll be more like seminars than lectures) and games, but I think it would be cool if we could avoid paying for any spaces. Toronto is full of neglected spaces that are just begging to be used by a bunch of people who like cool places. Ninj http://www.infiltration.org

Cool, I so want to go. Maybe I can find a way...

I'm definitely interested in going, though I have no idea what my schedule will be like this far ahead so I'll just have to play it by ear... The camping idea sounds like a lot of fun. Might have to fire up my little holiday cabin on wheels...

Since this thread got bumped up, I was wondering if those of us coming up from the Twin Cities are going to carpool, I can provide a 3-4 man tent, plus many camping supplies, but unless I get another car before then, I think my wheels will have to stay behind for my GF to use. Anyone else interested in carpooling from the Cities? Asylunt

hey...It seems like everybody is interested in carpooling. If you guys want, PM me with where you are, If you can drive, and how many more people you'd be willing to take. I can sort of keep a list and hook people up with each other. I'm all good at logistics that way Reclamation is based out of New York/Connecticut. We are driving and could take prob. one more person.

I'll probably be bringing the wife and Chainsaw Jr. with me - they'll go do regular tourist stuff whilst I lurk about with y'all... So, if anyone wants to ride in the car with me, my wife and our screaming two year old for three days...Just go shoot yourself, it will be more fun.

well after continuosly skipping over this thread, Jester got me interested in this conference thing. So I would just like to announce my intentions to attend I used to be part of a group called ARA(anti-racist action) A month after I joined the annual conference was held in Montreal. I learned some good things from that conference so I thought Id put some idea's here... I was in charge(unfortunatly)of making the itinerary. It was a cheap little booklet with information on the days events, places to eat, cool places to visit and a small map of the Metro system. Once more things get in order it might be a good idea to print those out(if this idea hasn't already been discussed I could send Ninj some pictures of the booklet to give you an idea of what it looks like) We rented out a hall in a University where everyone could bring sleeping bags and sleep at night, eat food and amuse themselves. Just some idea's I thought i'd throw around... Personally I think I am going to take a greyhound bus to toronto a day before, stay at a hostel and take a bus back a day after the conference. Its 114$ there and back.

I'm still thinking about how to get down there, I probably have enough airline mileage for a ticket, but I have some other friends who are interested and we might end up carpooling. If so we'd likely start early and try to meet some of the Canadian UEers along the way. Maybe we could end up with a big UE convoy all the way across Canada!

For those people in Minneapolis and the like, are you planning on heading north around L.Superior and then heading east, or heading south around L.Michigan and then north? If you're heading south, then we mayhaps should talk... so far, I can think of at least 4 of us from over in this area that're trying to work out things to go (there's probably more, but its 6am and I'm braindead). If there are people with semi-large vans and the like, it might be worthwhile to discuss a plan that could accomodate as many people as possible. I may have use of a vehicle at that point, but its up in the air at this point - also up in the air is the potential use of a resting place in Michigan. Figured that, since its a good many hours from WI to MI, and not so many from MI to TO, crashing for a few hours of rest before the con wouldn't be a horrid idea. Anywho, hit me back and we'll see about working somethin out. footsteps light, flashlights bright -~ DT

I'm thinking about coming. My girlfriend is willing too, she'll go anywhere. W'ere upstate NY, any takers?
I got your tour winner right here pussies, at least he'd crash out trying. | |
I've got a place in ypsilanti, MI (nr Ann Arbor) to offer if anyone needs to crash on the way from points west. We could always hit a couple spots in detroit as we head toward the wild north.

namrock - Actually, that isn't a horrible idea. If memory serves, its about a 12 or 13 hour drive from mid WI to the Detroit area, and those people who'd be coming fromt he cities would tack on about another 2.5 or 3 hours to that (I believe, anyway). Plus any stopping for food, rearranging gear, picking people up, etc... would add time to that... so its possible that people could be driving for, say, 18 or 19 hours... and a place to crash for a couple of hours before crossing the border and hitting up TO would sound like a godsend after that much driving. Now, thsi is only thinking about my route, which is kinda selfish of me. It just seemed appropriate at the time, since there are a good many people from up toward my general direction that're planning on coming.

This may seem like a silly thing to ask, but are there any taxes, surcharges etc for crossing the US / Canadian borders? I know there are when flying, but they could be airport taxes. What about driving a car across the border? Any fees people need to be aware of?

If you are a youth hostel member you can stay at the HI Youth hostel CA Toronto at 76 Church Street St (North of King Street) Toronto M5C 2G1, Ontario, CANADA for just $88 Canadian staying the night of the 3rd May 2004 and departing 7th May 2004. Centrally located, and just a 2-3 minute walk from the nearest station. It's dorm accomodation, but I bet UEr's could book a room, the smallest rooms have 4 beds, with en-suite shower. That's 22 Canadian a night. I don't work for them, but I found it nice when I stayed there.

Well, If I ever manage to my license (Living in the city, it's easier to take the train. Parking's a bitch), I'll drive up to Toronto. I've been itching for a Road Trip. But I might hit you up on that offer Darktreader.

Mmm... yes, but anyone taking this route will want to book for JUNE, and not May, just to make sure they're actually in town for OPX : )
